Is there a how to on removing the instrument panel?

Post by Jamee » Thu Apr 04, 2013 3:19 pm

As title really, the matrix has gone in the lower part of the clocks, I read on here it's about £75 to send off to be fixed. Hopefully it will be an easy removal (doubt it tho lol), and quick turn around.

Thanks.

Very simple mate - 2 small screws holding the panel in place  which are at the top in the 'visor' over the cluster. You will feel them if you run your finger around the top edge of the cluster just infront the glass.

Then unclip the cables.

I had mine back on my prev X5 in 3 days (sent on Monday, received and fixed on Tuesday, back here Wednesday) from a guy in Scotland.

kkodal78 had this done I think - LEDs for his 'is'. Think you may not be able to do that standard models, but check.

Hi
My display is awful (03 pre-facelift). Can hardly read the clock.
Bloke I bought it off said he enquired to get it fixed with BMW and it was prohibitively expensive.
Would my model X5 display be fixable at a reasonable price and if so could someone please post the contact to a "fixer"?
Many thanks!

Do a search for dash and pixel fix.

There's reference to a guy called Rudy (I think) in Southampton who can do it for you.

Two screws on the top inside edge get the binnacle out.

IanP and others,
Thanks. The link to the website (?Rudy's?) seems to be inactive.
Has his website changed?
I would very much appreciate a telephone number or other contact for him.
Thanks again guys.

I'd like to get this done and would probably opt for the while u wait service. Somehow I don't trust the post with such an important part of the car. I've been in touch with Rudi and will probably try and get this done in the next few weeks.

One quick question for anyone who has had the pixel fading issue fixed - does opening the binnacle to effect the repair show any visible signs of damage after the job is finished? In other words, would I see any difference after the repair (other than brighter pixels)?
