roof rails - should I shouldn't I? - NOT removal

Post by JimmySpeed » Thu Apr 04, 2013 11:00 am

I'm contemplating painting my roof rails on my estoril 4.6is in a silver/alu metallic paint (think audi RS6)

I think it will look good as they will match the wheels which are fairly large and very bright and give the roof some presence.

Alternative is to leave them black. Another option is to code them in estoril. I think silver/alu would look good though.

What are folks opinions? I do my own painting so it would be easily reversible, but won't have the time for a few weeks.

On my silver X5, they were silver and looked good but that may be because they matched the car.

Just to add, Im not keen on the look with roof rails removed so that is not an option for me.

Mmmmmm..................im not keen on roof rails body colour.

+ would roof rail removal mean headliner down + a load of work ?

I personally think best left black. I thunk bmw got it right first time.

There again im probably old and boring.

Regards,

Nat.

All opinions appreciated, even old people's ;D;D

Just to be clear, I do NOT want to take them off permanently. It's fairly easy to do though. No messing with the headliner.

This was my silver one,

This time I'm thinking about silver on blue so not colour coded per se.

Leave them as they are - no sane, rational, sensible, intelligent, charming sophisticated person would want a motor that looked like an Audi RS, let alone own one, surely - just ask 535dboy.

As you have deceided to paint one way our another I would go silver. Although your previous X looks well with the matching rails I don't think the estroil blue would work.

Well, if I do do it (and I'm sure my curiosity will get the better of me and I will) i'll post up some pics of how it turned out.

Its one of those "it sounds like it may work but also sounds like it could look terrible" ideas but is at least easily reversible.

Just some decent weather for the painting and some free time!

I'm going for leave them, as I think the black against blue looks better. I dont think it would look bad colour coded, just not my cup of tea.

I think the silver against the blue could actually look quite nice.

Look forward to seeing pics either way.

In order of preference:

1) leave them as they are

2) silver

Colour coding them blue wouldn't even make the list!

interesting topic; as i was contemplating either removing mine all together (NEVER have NEVER will use them) having them same colour as car or graphite black (same as wheels!)
