Hi I bought a 2001 3.0d X5 with 87000 miles two weeks ago. I have read a lot of different opinions on the webasto heater.

On my X5 MID display is says "vent on" only NOT aux heater. I have NO remote for the heater.

Can I purschase the £35 remote kit from maplin and fit. Does this give me the heat function?

Has anyone done this which I could chat with?

Any help greatly appreciated (dont want to waste hours reading forums and wast money and time if this cant be done)

thanks

Mine had neither aux vent or aux heating as selectable options. BMW changed the aux heater today to fix it. I think you will need the aux heating option available to get it working.

I have the remote so not familiar with maplin fix but have heard others using it. Sure someone will fill in the blanks for you

Hello I have the £35 maplin remote with the timer built in. I had this connected / spliced into pin 1 on the webasto. worked perfect. The section "How to" has lots of information on it about this. It takes my car about 25 min to get warmed up. When I say warm, it is warm enough to clear the hard frost of the windscreen. My car is 05 3.0d sport. I now have the timers on the obc working so I have disconnected the remote.

Malc not to sure why yours is not working. The telestart module goes in the boot I think and links in. You have to rewire the front plug I beleive.

gareth82 - before you spend time money in hopefully getting your aux heater to work when car parked up, a very simple test is to connect a wire from pin 1 of the multiplug on top of the webasto to the battery positive connector on the bulkhead behind the heater. keep the wire connected with engine switched off, the heater should start and run continually untill wire removed, say 30 mins so as to save your car battery.
if this all works ok then a maplin remote will do exactly the same job as youve just tested!
make sure the connection to pin 1 is a good one mind, its very fiddly to do, i used a scothlock connector.

good luck!

Malc950. Your t91 system is probably having to accept the cars inbuilt criteria of air temp below 5deg C, 1/4 tank fuel, good battery voltage etc. Whereas hotwiring pin 1 prob bypasses this.

Right hand side of the engine bay, big rectangular unit is the Webasto. Fitted as standard to the diesels. Aux heating is a factory option which you can add later. It is simply another function available from the Webasto unit.

Loads of info on this Board about enabling it and what bits you need. Either a Telestart Remote, or some bits from Maplin - cheaper and works as well.

Thanks for that, i am now focussing my search on V8 facelift models so i guess i don't need to worry about aux heating :(

Cheers

Hi Sit
I beleive that there was a few petrols with the heater added rare option. I think a couple of guys on here have them fitted. I expect again it will show up on OBC if it is. I am sure somebody will be able to tell you the location of the heater. So keep looking you might find one.
