hi, living in Australia i thought i would ask for some feed back from where this car came from,

what do you think of this car, i want it for my wife, she does about 10,000 per year, and she wants a car thats a bit more luxurious than her suzuki SX4 sport hatch ( which is fairly basic).

2002 Jaguar X-Type X400

Kilometres 88,405

i havent looked at or driven it yet but from the pics it looks ok, ive read that they got alot better after 2004, but is that true

the car is metallic blue with cream leather interior 

i have a X5 2005 3.0d sport so i have an idea of what maintenance can be

can anyone give me any personal experience or observations

Mmmmmm  no idea really. I never liked the look of it myself. However, I believe that jag is 25 % Ford Mondeo, ( built on Mondeo platform I believe is memory serves me correct, so parts should be aplenty /cheaper and it should be reliable and well tested.

Cant vouch for Jag quality back in 2002.

I suspect most things Jap will be more reliable in your part of the world.

A friend of mine had a 2002 2litre ish diesel, it was ok when it was working but he had no end of trouble at the end and ended up px ing it fora Saab.  As I understand, the rest of the car was ok and Mondeo based as mentioned above.

i took the car for a drive and i have to say it was uninspiring, even though it was 11 years old and only had 88k on the speedo,  it felt like it had done a lot more, i decided to pass.

my wife can get her suzuki sx4 lowered and a nice set of 18 inch wheels, and stick with it, we got it new in 2008 and it only has 46k on it, and has been ultra reliable.

so reality check done, and now waking up to our selves, no need for more than one expensive car to maintain in the family ( my X5)

These start at silly money in UK............£1k the lowest I have seen for runner without declared damage/faults.

Mondeo in a slightly more expensive  frock. I agree they are not inspiring to drive, (yes I have driven one).

For the money I cant think of much else as new with a prestige badge for similar money without major headaches or image issues........ You don't often see yobs driving them either so arguably more respectable image than some other prestige badged cars of similar age & cost used.

I'd advise buying one to a more mature person looking for car they could feel happy & comfortable driving to various venues occasions without being sneered at........The X type is a comfortable enough car albeit some might say a little too soft.

In UK the facelift wasn't groundbreaking & a.f.a.i.k. mainly cosmetic....unless after the newer auto box or 2.2 Diesel. The S Type facelift was far more significant and with improvements underneath from 2002 MY after early criticism......easy way to 2002 cars onwards........bonnet grill with cat/jag logo in same.

For folk wanting reliable 4 door saloon then Accords are a fairly safe bet. For more space the Honda FRV seats 5, they are liked by owners, yet often overlooked by folk seeking used family transporters.

Academic really as you are staying with the Suzi...........My thinking aloud may help others later if considering same for selves or perhaps others who may ask advice.

Doesnt the FRV have 6 seats? 3 in back 3 in front?
