4.6iS - leather/cloth seats.

Post by gmc15 » Tue Nov 09, 2010 3:10 pm

There is a 2003 4.6iS advertised on Autotrader and it has 'Leather Upholstery With Cloth Inserts'. Does anyone know what this is exactly? Are the outside of the seats leather and the main seating/back of the seat cloth. Is this less desirable than full leather?

Thanks.

Graeme.

Sounds like Nappa Alacantra combo - a quick call to BMW customer service with VIN or Reg number will confirm exact spec.

Not likely to have impact on price - indeed it was a feature of the Lemans and sport plus cars.

Thjat said if you have 2nd thoughts it may have similar impact on others.

Thanks.
I think the wording is key to the advert, leather with cloth inserts does not sound as good as Nappa alacantra :)

Any other features that may make it a Lemans or sports plus?

The advert, it has now been altered to say half leather :)

Lemans Edition & Sport plus packs were only available on ther facelift cars, however, I believe the trim was available before as on this 4.6is.

Carbon Black edition was the only official limited edition 4.6is though under individual programme some spec'd cars in rare colour/trim combos. Last week there was an imola red 4.6is for sale 4.6is with red interior trim.

Cant confirm 100% if the leather is nappa & my opinion is somewhat a guess, but I can confirm I have seen other prefacelift cars with leather/cloth combo- last one being a 4.6is belonging to a member on the old site iirc.

Heated seats all around & DSP, (DPS is spelling mistake), Hi-fi indicate a good spec.

The cost of the prior recommended (premuium rate), phone call will be worthwhile - especially if you are thinking of buying........ Maybe ask them to email or send a print out.

Yes.......Retro fit tints : When retro fitted tint film often leaves white marks where air sits between the film and the black dotted matrix area that seperates the solid black transfer that surrounds the rear window.

One tinter local to me told me it was virtually impossible to retro fit tint film without this being visible. This & the fact that current law doesnt make any allowance for expensive films, (that dont restrict front side visbility like the cheap stuff), are the 2 reasons I have never had retro fit tints. If having this done i future I would only have it done if I had reassurance as to the abscence of the unsightly white air bubble marks.

100% agree with all AW8 states above. There were quite a few Imola Red 4.6iS with Imola Interior delivered and also BS with Imola which looked very smart indeed. Full e53 exterior/interior options here http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=130 as you will see Nappa leather was the only option on the 4.6iS

Re. The tints. Get the tinter to sand the dot matrix before hand. This will minimise the air bubbles you get round the dot matrix.

Managed to get some pics of the interior. What do you think of the half leather seats?

They look really smart, like them far better than standard leather.

I agree, that trim looks the same as the 'Le Mans' ED if IIRC. Offers more grip for your backside when your on a blast :D

I have had 1/2 leather in a couple of my old cars and although it isn't normally as desirable I have always liked them better than full leather.

My Le Mans has full leather seats, but apparently there is a colour coded half leather LLe Mans version available. Personally I think its yuk, but its each to his /her own, really. Definitely not to everyone's taste.

Thanks everyone. I am not sure about the interior and half leather seats so I will have to pass on this car :( There will be others that meet all my requirements for sale.

The guy only offered me £6500 for my 2001 3.0d sport auto (88k) - said it was £2k down on an identical car with comms :( Thought this was a bit low - do comms on older cars really command £2K more?
