Hi All
Could anyone tell me whether or not the air suspension compressor pump and its immediate sundries can be mounted at any angle? I have had the compressor unit relocated to the rear right, boot pocket as I have had an LPG system fitted. The unit now does not have the casing around it so it vibrates and is noisy. Has anyone come up with a method of solving this problem?

On both of my converted X5's, the pump has been in the same place as yours. On my current one, it is surrounded by foam and is not noisy or intrusive. On my previous one, it was 'exposed' and was fairly loud, but not bothersome.

Perhaps you just need some sound deadening?

Is there any chance you could PM me a photo or two showing your pump unit location/geometry, and more poignantly the foam around it? I've thought of wrapping the unit with sound deadening but are there any issues with the pump overheating or the wrapping causing a fire hazard??

no problem, I'll take some in the morning.

The sound deadening isn't tight around the pump, it definitely has room to breath. It's never felt hot put it that way.

Mine is located in the same place aswell.

It is surrounded by foam but is still noisy for about 5 seconds after start up.

Bin it off and go to coil springs then no worries.

That's what I've done and mines being converted in a couple of weeks.

Unless there's another reason to get rid of the air bags, it shouldn't be necessary though. I know you had your reasons any way Raj, but the op I think just needs to adjust the position and deaden the sound.

Just out of interest, what kind of money are we looking at to convert over to springs? Are you changing the ride height also?
Has a few of us have the compressor gubbings relocated to the rear right hand well, which way is yours positioned? (left to right, front to back, horizontal or vertical) and what type of bracketry do you have, any PM's with a photo would be grateful.
I'm going to see if I can mock up a casing so the unit is back within a casing like the OEM  unit. Will post as development takes place.
I tell you what I'm also looking for is a knackered pump and it's casing, this would help me no end and would save me having to take my unit in and out. Anyone got one going cheap?? ;D

Mine also is in the rear right hand cubby. Its rather unceramoniously wedged in with foam and not fixed at all. Although it is audiable, its not obtrusive - that was until yesterday when it mad one hell of a racket. Investigations have revealed the bottom end bearing on the pump has totally disintergrated. By chance I have an old compressor from a Range rover L322 that I aquired from a friend a couple of years back in the hope that one day it would be usefull. The motors are the same but with some piping differences but when I get the new piston seal Ive ordered Im sure I can get a good one out of the bits. Happy days.

Your looking at around £200 to convert the rear to OE springs I believe (I've gone to coilovers tbh) but you can recoup that money selling your old air suspension bits on eBay.

As for your air pump sound deadening, why not just take the sound deadening from the original case and use that?

Mine makes a bit of noise on start up but that's it. I've heard of using foam as posted above but after a week I just got used to do didn't bother in the end.

I got some pics but couldn't get the foam out of the way to get much of the pump in the picture. Even ended up ripping the foam slightly but it still does the job.

Still hopefully you can make out the orientation. Its also firmly attached somehow but not sure how. I couldn't wobble it a mm in any direction.

Thats looking downwards from above in the right hand recess behind the removable door (where the OEM sub would be)
