Bad remap

I was wondering if there's anyway of identifying whether a previous owner has had the 'X' remapped using a poor quality map?
I've been having some minor issues as per the post below and was thinking it might be a bad remap and wanted a way of checking:

Some remappers can tell I think - in the past I have used Simon from emaps and i'm sure he said that he works by downloading the standard map, emailing it to whoever does his remap who looks at the standard map and then chooses a suitable modifed map to send back to Simon who uploads it.
IF this is how they do it, then perhaps the person looking at the standard map can tell from experience if its already mapped... maybe...

Thanks, I guess I need to find an experienced and honest mapper.

If you're near to Solihull then you can't be far from me. I have a standard 4.6is, come and drive mine and you'll soon know if yours is mapped by comparison

Feel free to PM me then and set something up then whenever you're ready then. Its always good to drive other cars which are the same as yours - I have a few things that I question about my own car so would be mutually beneficial.

This may not be a remap issue though. The standard map is lifted off the vehicle, that is then saved by the mapper. Another copy of the original file is tweaked to make the map (based on what you asked for, economy, power). That file is then downloaded back to the car.
But call Jason and explain who you are and you're from this forum and he may be able to advise over the phone (not likely) but he is coming to the Meet on the 27th and that may be a perfect opportunity for you to discuss this and for him to diagnose.

Thanks guys, I may just give Jason a call.
I reset my gearbox today (only just found out that I can do this). The X drives much better, but still has the annoying issue.
Unfortunately I can't make the meet on the 27th as I need to do an airport run at Heathrow.

How do you reset the gearbox in an E53? I could do with trying that before final decision on remap. Can you help by giving some details?

turn the key to ignition pos II, foot on accelerator for 30 seconds, then start car.
Popular twists on the above:
1. After foot on accelerator, put foot on brake for 10 seconds, then start car
2. Put foot on accelerator before turning key to position II
3. Combine 1 and 2 above.
I've tried them all, they all seem to work, but whatever you reset its not long before it 'adapts' again!

Thanks. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
I'm tempted with a remap still. Probably looking for an economy setting which should help with the auto box (or so I've read on here)

As above, but I hadn't heard of point 2 so will also try this out.
In addition to this I also found how to reset my Bluetooth unit through the forum. Just womdering if there are other elements that can be reset on these cars?
