Tints done right??

Post by saicab » Thu Mar 28, 2013 2:25 pm

Hi,

Just had my windows tinted but i dont think they came out right. The rear window and the back side glass have
the edges showing dots (hard to explain) but see the pics.
The tinter is saying thats normal but ive seen others X5's without this or is that because they have factory tints.
Let me know what you guys think

That's correct.

Factory tints is the glass itself is tinted, no film.

These are effectively trying to stick over the dots that graduate from clear to black edge, so you get this effect where the film can't stick to the glass surface between the dots. Some tinters sand down the dots to get a better chance of the film sticking but this is pretty normal.  :(

Must be annoying for you.....as much as I would like darker rear tint thats why I never got mine done. Shame he didnt tell you of this known issue beforehand.

Hi,
I've not noticed this on my other cars I've tinted in the past golf,Hyundai coupe. I know this to most people is normal but it's driving me crazy!!!
The tinting guy did tell me but I didn't realise its gonna be that obvious. Oh we'll at least it's not the film the guy used.

That's perfectly normal where the film goes over the dot matrix. As Sanj has mentioned, some tinters actually sand it down to give a smoother surface.

Give it a few days to dry out and take it back to get the tinter to press it down again over the dot matrix. You'll find it will stick a bit more than currently but won't completely adhere.

Raj is right - give it a few days, it will be better but ask him foor some assistance.

Don't be down just yet.

I'm sure you will grow to ignore it, either that or you will be trimming the the film back to the edge of the dots and painting over the dotted area.

Either way, unfortunately Sanj & Raj are right.
