Couple of questions regarding the SatNav in my 2010 Facelift X5. Looks like it only supports first 4 characters of the postcode. Is there any way to get it to support the full postcodes? Assume also no way of getting speed camera support? If the answer is no to both may just have to take my TomTom with me on longer trips.

Have you tried putting the space character in to get the rest of the postcode?
That's what works on mine.

It's unpredictable. Sometimes it needs the space, other times not. Do you have connected drive? If so you can send a destination directly from Google maps, and it works well. Bit of a pita mind having to do that each time. The BMW SatNav is famously cr*p, and as a BMW tech admitted to me, a £100 tomtom is far better, so worth keeping in the glove box.

I only live 15mins from Portsmouth and go over the channel quite a bit. Every time I set the nav up it always wants to take me via dover ::) It also has some odd moments as you go down through France. 1 section adds 70+ miles to the journey with no benifit what so ever. I only use it for traffic info to be honest and always keep a good old Michelin map in the back of my seat

Satnavs calculate routes by using all different data not always the best route unfortunately, the dynamic routing on the BMW system can cause all sorts of mad routes so I tend to leave this off.
Depending on the year of your maps and the CIC firmware the postcode search can work in various ways.

I'm not sure if I'm just lucky on where I live or the routes I typically do but I can't recall any significant issue with the sat nav directions or entering post codes or using the web to download routes?
Certainly nothing that would make me consider the faff of having to attach a 3rd party device to the windscreen or dash.
