Lets just say both models are available. What do you have: M4 cabrio or RS5 cabrio. And why?

If it was me, then M4. A5 is getting old, never been a fan of Audi interiors, the A5 cab doesn't look as striking as the coupe, even to the extent that but for the lights doesn't look to dissimilar to the A4 cab.
That said, we will have to see how far the production car moves away from the concept car. BMW do as a rule a very good job of making the M cars look aggressive, purposeful and excellent to drive, so little chance of being dissapointed!

Regardless of looks or brand, for me it would come down to how the car drives and performs. Given the previous record of both the RS4/5 and 'M' there is a clear winner.

The M4 would be my choice. A5 looks a bit dated already.

How important is the cars ultimate ability these days. One, they are all made to deliver a very high standard, and two, when can you really get anywhere near the potential these days on our roads. Now if the car is going to be used on track days then that's a different story.

As the answer is so far all M4, I wonder what the response would be on an Audi forum. Might be worth asking to see if they are all for the RS5?

But we've got 535dboy......he can answer that one.
For me it's an M4, though a little tempted by the Audi - just not driven one in recent years. Isn't the 4-series just going to be what was the 3er Vert and Coupe versions? All the other versions in the range are staying as '3' aren't they?

As the six is to the five series, the four will be the sporty versions of the three series with, I believe sporty versions of the one series being.......you guessed it, two series.

Don, if we had been ask to compare say 335i coupe against say the S5 I'd agree with your statement. But we aren't.
The 2 vehicles in question are the very best performance/drivers car that each manufacturer build in this market segment. Audi has always been on the back foot with the M/RS battle and lets not forget the C63 AMG in this.
You don't have to drive these these vehicles on track to feel the difference. The current M3's steering for a start is head and shoulders above the RS's.
I'll be interested to see what 535dboy says. He went for the Avant due to having a need for space as I understand it. BMW sadly don't do a Touring 'M' which I think is a real shame. Had they have done may be he would have looked at that option. What would he have gone for if he only need a coupe?

Re: Here's a poser
Having not driven either, I bow to your knowledge. Although I wasn't comparing the actual feel of either car, I was intending to point out that unless being reckless with your licence, there just isn't a chance to really explore these cars limits. Hence it could be down to personal taste more so than outright ability. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/wink.gif)

Re: Here's a poser
Somebody call!?
I wonder what I'm going to say....
First off when it was the B7 (previous to mine) vs the E46 M3 every report I read reported that the Audi was the better car in every respect. This was by far and away the best car Audi made.
E9x series was a much newer car so would have advanced somewhat but there were some reports that it was cold over the previous model. I have driven quite a few on both road and track and they don't do it for me. As chompers said I needed a wagon for the dog which BMW don't do and I also like to have at least one four wheel drive car. BMW again don't do this here.
Now I have mine I much prefer it to any E9x M3 I've driven but to be fair to lee4.8, his car does look stunning.
The B7 RS4 cab was no where near as good as the regular cars so there is a chance the RS5 will not be that good too
However of course I've not driven a 4 series so can't comment but what I can say is that every new F car I've driven (excluding possible the new M135i) has left me absolutely cold. I had a new M5 for about a week and I didn't like it all, particularly in the wet where it was far too much (I had two occasions where I had a slide overtaking at c65mph). I don't like the delivery of turbo petrol cars, particularly 2 wheel drive ones.
With a cab you want to be able to hear the best engine and the M4 will sound totally dull next to the RS. The M5 was a major disappointment.
