BMW routes / SatNav planning

Post by 5wany » Sat Mar 23, 2013 3:38 pm

Hi

I have used the BMW Connected Drive to plan routes and then transfer them to vehicle.  They have all been UK internal routes.
However, tried to plan France holiday trip, and got a problem.

When I plan route from Scotland to Pornic it keeps reverting to Dover - Calais ferry crossing or if I change route criteria to shortest its then showing Portsmouth - Caen.

BUT I am going Portsmouth to St Malo.  Cant seem to get the route to show this. Any one out there know how to get BMW routes to do this.

Alternative way would be to plan 2 seperate routes Sco-Portsmouth and the ST Malo to  Pornic.  Seems a pretty sh**e gimmicky route system from BMW if it doesn't let user stipulate ferry crossing points.

... and watch out as it directs you.  I was blindly following the SatNav returning from the Alps and realised it was randomly taking me west into Paris rather than up to Calais.  Wasted about an hour backtracking.  The car's awesome but the BMW SatNav is pure sh*te.  >:(. No idea why it still hasn't been fixed through updates.

I know, the amount of times I've missed a junction as sat nav says 40m distance still to go?

Reckon I will go with the 2 route method.

I have at least been refunded the £2k cost of the media pack and am getting free map refreshes when they come out.  The customer services manager I was dealing with was just as frustrated with the SatNav in her car and couldn't defend it.  I'd prefer a SatNav that works though....

Great result, bet not many people get that type of customer service.

I've had this a few times both with the X5 and my CLK. Both of them always default to the Channel Tunnel although they do both recognise the ferry route (once you've done it) when you start up at the end of the journey.
I always do it as two routes for that reason.
I'm on the Portsmouth/St Malo boat at summer half-term - Caen is quicker but I much prefer a good night's sleep and the more comfortable timings. Hope you have a good crossing!

So annoying that the system can't be trusted. Added to that, its real time re-routing makes it even more frustrating. Not all the time but certainly enough not be able to rely on it.

exactly, nice wee night cap on ferry then some slumber and zzzz's.  (For me the extra on cost of the longer crossing worked out about the same for the extra diesel on driving further & toll road costs on dov -cal route.)  Wake up nice and fresh in morning ready to bear with the X5's sat nav  ;)

Being only 10mins or so from Portsmouth, I find the Caen crossing the best. Mainly because the motorway network
Gets you going as soon as your off the ferry and the route down to central France is quite and fast.  :drive:

Going over on the fast cat in the summer to Cherbourg, crosses in just under 3 hours.

A very kind offer, thank you, even though I am doing the old tunnel route again this year.
