Hi guys,
Looking at getting a facelift e53 3.0d (prob 2004/5)
Can anyone tell me what year the head units switched with digital tv receiver?
I'm guessing around 2004, but anyone have a definite answer?
Thanks
James

Mid 05. Select TV and see if more than 5 channels come up. Or a picture! It's still rubbish though.

As Sanj said mid-2005 model year. Installation began from October 2004 builds so you need to check which month the cars were manufactured. BMW provide a 'build plate' under the bonnet if you weren't aware.

You've obviously tried a retune? It should be getting better slowly as the transmitter power comes up.
Note though that all the higher end channels will move down the band as 4G is to replace what is currently in the old Band 5 TV channel block. There is also likely to be some interference but cars are not protected.

You can buy a digital upgrade tuner for £139 so dont let that rule your choice of vehicle.
I get no reception on analogue - signal well gone up here. Never though really worth spending on upgrade though - possibly for digital radio?

Thanks for all the info guys.
Definitely not a deal breaker if car has it or not. Just a bonus if it dose, prob wouldn't use it very often anyway, lol!

I've got it in mine - was specced to the car which was in stock, rather than it being our choice. It isn't often used but from time to time it's handy and in the E70, I don't have many instances of poor reception (SE England).
If we get somewhere 5-10 mins early it's good stick on to keep the kids occupied. Sometimes my wife will stick it on and listen to the soaps or I will listen to a football game if it's not on R5 Live (pictures won't work unless the handbrake is on - there's a mod to overcome this but it would be illegal). I probably wouldn't spec the TV in future, but it's a nice plus to have.
If there were a mod to link the TV to the Nextbase DVD players I've got then that would be good...
