Sat Nav miles away from actual location

Evening all, after hours of searching on here and other sites i am at a loss. I have the MKIV satnav system with the 16:9 head unit, all was fine with it till today, went out for a poodle about to blow some cobwebs away and i noticed the little arrow head symbol on the screen was a little way away from the road i was actually driving on, I looked out of the window just to make sure i was still on the road and not in actual fact driving through the river Tyne as the screen said i was and low and behold i was actually on the road, as the drive progressed i got further and further away from my actual location and i by the time i got home again, the screen actually showed that i was approx 6 miles from home. I removed the disc from the unit and reinserted it and problem still the same, I seem to think the little square satellite indicator in the top corner of the screen looks different to normal but i can't be sure of this. Anyone got any ideas on where to start with this one please.

There was a post lot long ago with a similar problem, If I remember they were advised to replace the satnav antenna, if you look back through the past pages you may be able to come across it. Sanj or X5sport and Aw8 are very good at searching the forum for old threads on certain problems, they may even advise on a reboot of the nav unit. Sorry I can't be of anymore help

Does the satellite/earth symbol have any little green dots on it?  If not then you have no GPS lock and the car is depending upon it's other systems to 'guess' where it is after that last time it had a lock.  Mine did this for a few days and the dealer reloaded the firmware - problem solved.

Hi Richard, The little GPS logo has nothing in it so i presume i need to start looking towards the GPS receiver, I have just been thinking about this and i never used the sat nav after the repair on my multidisc changer the other day so i may have unplugged something or disturbed something whilst in that corner, I will have a look tomorrow and get back to you all. Thanks for the response.

Woohoo I now have loads of green dots on my square. I had a look in the back corner and found that the people that fitted the tracker had stuck the antenna to the GPS antenna and then cable tied the wires together (you can probably see where this is going) and the glue pad for the tracker antenna had given way letting the antenna fall and pulling the coaxial cable out of the satnav one.

535dboy I can only presume the bentley isnt in France, has your friend tried looking out of the window just to make sure he isnt actually in Paris?  You never know ;-)
