Found this a few days after picking up car, being replaced on monday.

Strangely, I had the same issue on my E53 and BMW changed it under warranty.  The Dealer at the time said it was a 'known' problem and they had the part in stock.  Only seemed to affect the Drivers side and the replacement part never wore out.

All fixed and they washed and vacuumed it  :)
