Normal Service Resumes

Post by Don Coffey » Thu Mar 14, 2013 3:35 pm

Today I took the plunge and put the summer wheels back on.

Ride wise, there isn't that much difference.  I do live in an area with poorly constructed roads so tend to get bounced around quite a bit regardless of wheel set up.  Although the daughter seems to have noticed the difference more, as she was giving off to me on the way home from school.

Road holding however is greatly improved with a much more assured ride.  Although the winter tyres are favoured by the Scandinavians, I think they are more suited to constant snow, rather than the odd day or two we tend to get.  However, they still look like new and will know doubt do many more years.

Looking good.

Although I'm not sure it's quite summer yet. It was snowing yesterday where I am.

I work a lot in the High Peak, so I'll be waiting a couple weeks more before I take the winters off the Mini. Will be buying Pirelli Scorpions for the X when winter returns, later in the year.

I hadn't bothered to look too far ahead with the weather, but knowing my luck we will now have heavy, sustained snow well into April!  :'(

Reminds me of the old saying:

'Ne'er cast your clout till May be oot'

We've been hoodwinked by warm winters for most of the nineties/noughties and we're now seeing winters as I used to remember them, from 'when I were a lad.'

Good point, maybe I should refer to them as three seasons wheels?  Or SSAW?  ::)

Then I could call the two season or SAW!

Well at least it hasn't snowed where I live.........MUCH!

In fairness, the X has been very good in the conditions with no traction issue ( yet) including climbing a 16% hill. But lots of anticipation towards cornering and stopping.

Absolutely. I still get shivers with the memory of my E70 sliding down, towards other cars, on the very slightest downhill gradient. No problems at all uphill. So, despite the cost, it's a no brainer for me to put winters on the X6 when the time comes.
