Has anyone colour coded their black grills changed them from black to titanium?

I've bought a pair off ebay to practice on and wanted to know if anyone had any tips. I've done bits of aerosol painting before but would appreciate ANY advice.

Is the colour just BMW titan silver (because the grill ive seen dont look glossy and I'm sure if I just buy titan that it will end up shiny)??

I've got them in bits already and plan to buy a tinny from halfrauds tomorrow

Will post pics if it doesn't look totally gash

After seeing a couple of msport 3 series with a black grill surround, i was wondering what that would look like on a black E53. Was thinking of trying with a tin of that matt plastic paint that can be peeled of again in the future.
Dont mean to hijack your thread, just interested in a similar mod.

I would just get a set from eBay to practice on. They seem to go for a tenner or so so hardly worth chancing wrecking your fitted ones.

x555 was the expert at doing this to his e53 both ways i.e. Titanium finish and then to the all Black look. Try searching "Titanium  grills" on the forum  ;)

Thanks Chompers, you managed to answer two queries with one link. That looks as nice as I had expected.

Thanks chompers.

Does anyone know if the colour is just standard BMW titanium silver with lacquer on or without?

The colour (I think) is the BMW Titanium but I went with a close match - lacquer will give you the gloss look and no lacquer means matt.

I went with matt but expect some paint chips along the way. Could do with lacquer coat too but harder with more coats...

Depends on the look you'd want.

Welcome - remember to key/scotch the original grills to get a good base for the new paint.

Matt is more OEM  :ok:
