Blackberry 9900

Post by Denis O » Thu Mar 07, 2013 12:34 pm

I'm having a problem pairing my phone with both the X5 (2006) and the Z4 (2003). It seems to pair to start with and both cars are shown in the list of devices on the phone. However neither will connect other than intermittently or not fully.

The Z won't connect automatically and shows activate phone on the Nav screen. When I go into the phone connections it shows the Z as connected i.e. highlighted black. I then disconnect from the phone and reconnect and the phone book comes up on the nav screen and shows the phone connected. Try to make a call from the car and nothing. Make a call from the phone and it works but only through the phone and not the cars bluetooth.

The X won't connect at all apart from very rare occassions.

Now SWMBO's BlackBerry 9000 works perfectly on both the Z and the X.

Does anyone else have problems with the 9900 and BMW BT. I've even tried to reverse the 9900 firmware back a couple of releases but that makes no difference.

The only other BT connection I make with the 9900 is in my Land Rover which has a fairly new Clarion head unit and that works fine.

Help......

Find your Bluetooth module (in the boot of the X5), and see if you can spot the part number. Here is the complete list. The early modules were apparently pretty terrible and had very poor Bluetooth radios, and major pairing problems.

Later modules are "better" but I don't think anyone would say they are perfect..

As you see... They made ALOT of versions.. Probably because of technical problems :)

If you have a very early one, I would say either give up.. or try to source a second hand newer module. Im surprised the 2006 X has bigger problems than a 2003 Z.. as it should have a newer module. I assume both cars were OEM fitment, not retro fitted. BMW dealers were retrofitting the 1st generation module for years to "get rid" of them!
