Hi ALL
Is there an alternative way of setting the time and date on the clocks console other than by the standard head unit as I have fitted an aftermarket unit but now cannot set these items?
All help greatly appreciated

No! Unless you had the CD player and the MID unit, where as I have done is put the MID in the glovebox, having extended the wires.if you. Had OEM sat nav then you can't. Sorry

what is a MID Unit?
The std unit didn't have the cd head unit, just the cassette type.
Just as a thought I lost the time and date as I disconnected the battery.
Would the time and date remain on the console display if set with the OEM head unit then swap over to the aftermarket unit? Or would it be lost when disconnecting the OEM head unit?
any idea?

The MID unit is the multi info display, that is in the X's without satnav. They are paired with a cassette or CD player.

OK I defo got the satnav system type.
If I reconnect the OEm unit, set the time/date, will it stay on the console display if I then change the unit's back over??

Probably, but you may upset the systems if you do it 'hot'. These cars don't like having units on the system bus disconnected whilst power is on. 9/10 times it'll be fine.....

why would you consider swapping them 'hot'? i don't think there's a need..
i'm sure a cold swap and set date/time is all you need..

It might be possible to get a second hand MID and tap into power and ibus. But with all the coding on bmws it might be more tricky.
Then you would just use the mid to reset clock and on board computer features.
As one option was a backup mid for back seat passengers it should be possible to have multiple controllers in one car.
But a second hand mid may still be a bit expensive just to set the clock

:victory:THE JOBS A GOOD-UN!! :victory:
As I fitted a new data cable from the back to the front for the aftermarket head unit, I managed to pull forward the heat control panel and original connector plugs for the OEM head unit just enough to make the connections and set the time and date. As I didn't disconnect the new unit the time and date was set on there at the same time, so I don't think I'm going to sell on the head unit, just store away for future use.
Thanks for all the help.
