Satnav/Stereo Unit Problems...

Post by Jinja » Sat Feb 23, 2013 7:23 pm

Managed to get all the problems sorted with the car and she purring like a kitten now.  The only problem left internally is that the satnav unit has a few problems.

The satnav works, but nothing else does.  No radio, tape function not working and no sound what so ever.  None of the buttons marked in red actually work, at all!

Is this a common problem?  If so, what's the fix?

Thanks in advance  :D

It looks like it's not switched on because no yellow light on next to the bottom left round knob. Press the bottom left round knob which will turn on the radio and away you'll go.

Check the fuses for the BM54 radio module. Its in the boot, got at least 2 fuses, one in the fusebox, and another fitted to the module. Its next to the car battery buried deep in the boot.

That's assuming its not completely missing.

You can try rebooting the BM54 by unplugging the cables.. Again its next to the battery in the boot :)

After that you should get your radio/cd/tape and on board computer back again.

Any Sunroof on the car? Especially Panoramic, can leak water into the boot, causing all sorts of problems for the BM54 which is right in the bottom of the spare wheel well.

Check the fuse, try rebooting etc... If its broken there are plenty of people who repair them, and even upgrade them to include additional features and better sound quality.. They certainly can "crash" occasionally and unplugging them for a few minutes can often get it all back in order.

As long as you have the bm54 and its not completely missing (pinched by previous owner etc). They are not to unreasonably priced to get them rebuilt. Much cheaper than getting a replacement.

Repaired bm54 can be upgraded from 25watts x4 to 40watt x4.
You can get streaming Bluetooth added for music from iPhone etc
The repair guys can also include RCA output jacks to increase compatibility with aftermarket amp upgrades etc.

If the module is there and there is no water damage it probably just needs a reset or the cable might just be loose etc.

If it is broken, even water damaged ones are usually worth sending off for repair!

I just remembered from your other thread that the tv and radio worked intermittently on your way home.

Check the wheel well for any water etc then give the bm54 module a reboot. Also try disconnecting and rebooting the tv module as well. It can't hurt :).

Check for water in the left and right boot cubbies. Lots of electronics in there and there are several ways water can get in. If anything is wet dry it completely and pray :)

There are guys about who can pretty much repair and rebuild most of the electronics luckily. You can check fuses of course.

Keep us updated on your progress. I think I have the email address of the best uk repair guy for the radio.

Had a good nose around today.  Definitely no water, but couldn't find the BM54 unit!  Stripped right down to the battery, just didn't know where to look  :-[ .  Any one give me a pointer?  Thanks.....

I thought it was mounted on the rear of the battery area?  There should have been a number of modules immediately to the rear of the battery box, some separated by a plastic wall.

Thread here with piccies @ reply #14

I think there is a plastic cover over the top of it perhaps?

Big question is, did the BM54 look ok, and/or come back after a "reboot"? Try resetting the TV module as well :)

Good luck :)
