My car history is long and varied and I appear to have an inability to keep cars for more than a year or two! My most recent was an Audi A5 Sportback Quattro but I've had a number of BMWs in the past and they have been, by far, my favourites. Previous Bimmers include an E36 328i, E46 330d, E83 X3 2.0d followed by a 3.0d, E91 335d and an E70 3.0d SE a couple of years ago.
Initial findings of the car:
Handling is quite superb. Took the car up to Argyll to see my folks and had some fun on the roads I know well (A83) - this car isn't just 'good for a 4x4', it's good, full stop. Massively impressed.
Ride can be a bit bouncy on poorer surfaces but I was expecting that - certainly much better than my E83s. Otherwise, an extremely comfortable place to be.
Performance is great. I remember the step down from my 335d to the X5 was quite disappointing so to be back again in a car with prodigious overtaking ability is really very nice.
Pleased with economy. Having read some threads here before I picked up the car, I was getting a bit nervous that I would have difficulty breaking high 20's/30mpg - no such worry. In the short time I've had it, I've been very reassured that reasonable economy is perfectly feasible. Bearing in mind i have always seen about a 10% drop in economy in my diesel cars during winter, I was very satisfied with the 34mpg I achieved from Glasgow to Manchester yesterday - drove all the way down at a steady 70mph. So with a few more miles on the clock (only done 4500 so far and still feels very tight) and summer temps/fuel - I'm absolutely certain I'll be seeing high 30's in due course.
Driven hard on the A83 saw no less than 25mpg. The small amount of town driving I've done in South Manchester/Cheshire has seen an easy 27-28mpg - very happy with that as I was getting 23mpg, at best, with similar driving in my E70.
Sorry for the lengthy intro. I'm looking forward to getting settled here - seems such a friendly forum!

Here are a few pics. Ignore the '40' balloons on the car - they were for, erm, someone else.
