I ahve bought the above car complete with 'comms' pack and I want to hook up my mobile phone to it. Under the armrest there is a cradle that looks it would hold a good old Nokia 6310 but I want to set up a blackberry
So some questions .....
1) I know I can replace the cradle but can I get one for a Blackberry Torch ?
2) In the meantime beofre I get a cradle can I set it up through my bluetooth - and if so how ? I pressed the telephoen button on the dash unit but it asked me to "activate the telehone" - how ?
Thanks
Smee

Go to the BMW Bluetooth compatibility section in the Owners area and check whether or not the Blackberry will work. I suspect that the functionality may be limited to the basics but you may be lucky. The older TCU's only supported Bluetooth address format 1.1 which is little used now. My wife's iphone 4 pairs with her 2005 E46, but is limited to calls and some names from the phonebook.
I doubt you'll get a cradle for it from BMW either. With the X5 E53 having been out of production for so long, and Blackberry being a newish phone model you again may be lucky, but..... Pairing is done via a button at the forward end of the phone cradle. I assume you have the Bluetooth PIN code for the car? You should have been supplied with a phone manual which is in a separate booklet to the Owners Guide. If you don't have the code then you may need to get it from a dealer, if you can't find it on the TCU which I think is under the CD changer, LHS of boot area.

Thanks -will have a play around - I guess the other option is to get hold of a Nokia 6310 (lods on ebay) and insert my sim card when I'm in the car ?

I've found two 6310i handsets at home, a bit battered but still power up, as well as a 6310i cradle. PM me if interested.

I have now set this up but I have a couple of remaining questions;
I have transferred all my phone numbers - about 750 ( I was surpised it took them as i thought there may be memory issues) - however I dont seem to be able to select a number by letter of the alphabet ie I cant go to a name beginning with G for examples I have to scroll through all the screens of numbers (there is about ten or so per page) - it can take forever to get down to T for example. Is there an eays way to do this?
also if i manually type in anumber it shows up in the top 8 numbers but can i assign a name to it through the onboard computer ?
Thanks
Smee

AFAIK:
1. No. its tedious but there is no quicker option I am aware of.
2. No, The names are downloaded via your phone, I've often wished I could set up a phone book on the car itself, but its all from the phone only, although you can make and receive calls and the number shows. You will need to save it to the phone and assign it a name, then it will download to the address book on the screen.

if you need to par your phone via bluetooth to the car you will need the paring number from the car
it will need to be put onto a diagnostic system to get this

Isn't the pairing PIN located on the BT module in the boot (Below the cd changer and Nav disc drive)?

yes, I can confirm as the original poster that is is on the unit and, sorry Jason, no you don't need to hook it up to diagnostics to tell the cod,e you can just look in the boot and see it !
