I'm looking for a new car battery. Came across this and just wanted to know if anyone had used this site before

http://www.boschcarbatteries.co.uk/inde ... s5007.html

Just seems a bit too cheap considering cheapest eBay price is £80 and ECP have it for £115?

Is this legit?

I think that's to small (size/power) for the x5. I went for the http://www.eurocarparts.com/mobile/ecp/ ... f5f&000020 a couple of months ago.

Yes that's too small for theX5, it is only 75 ah. You need a 100 ah as mentioned in the other post I got mine for £100. ECP usually have a code or offer so works out at £85

Thanks guys. I noticed the battery has gone up to £130 at ECP!
But the s5 110 is on £120... Anyone know what the 3 numbers stand for?

In general, yes, assuming the same voltage. Ah is "amp hours" -- the product of how much current the battery can produce over how long a time period. Since watts are volts times amps, this is effectively a measurement of how much work you can get out of the battery. It ignores a bunch of issues such as exactly what the discharge curve is and what the battery's internal resistance might be, but it's a good rough indication.

Do you have an ECP nearby? I found that their in-store prices are less than mail order prices, presumably because postage is not actually "free".

I do as a matter of fact have 2 ECP's down the road from me! Will they accept a discount code in store do you think?

They don't even ask for the code in store. They just automatically drop the price by whatever "promotion" is currently being run. The whole idea of entering the discount code on-line is a bit of a farce really, to make you think you are getting extra discount. The reality is simply that they drop their "retail" prices by differing amounts at different times in order to pull you in. It's a bit like the "sales" at retail stores whereby they have a "sale" on for all but one day of the year.

Example. I needed a new serpentine belt for my X5. ECP online was (example figures used) £25 with free delivery. Take off 20% (on-line discount code) and that became £20. In my local ECP branch, it cost £16.

Rang up ECP,

Batt I need is a Bosch S5 019 - £113 + Vat

or S4 019 - £91 + Vat

So the prices are actually more expensive in store, as with the discount code I can get an S5 019 for around £100 all in.

Strange, for some reason I thought I could get a Bosch S5 100 into the car but I was told it was far too under powered.

I dont know if the guy on the phone was chatting shit now. Even when I go onto ECP website it comes up with S5 110 to fit in my car. But then ECP on the phone told me point blank that there is no way a 110 would fit, power wise or in terms of dimensions...

Edit:  Ok doesnt really matter as Iv just found the S5 019 at Carparts4less for £103 and £15off when you spend £100 or more. So £88 delivered.

A number of suppliers state that the '110' type will fit, but that's not the right ine.  The '019' form is the right one.  I think the 110 is only an 80Ah/740CCA battery too, and the 019 is a 100Ah/830CCA....which the bigger engines do need in cold weather.

I was told the 110 was the right one for our E46 as well.....but that definitely would not fit!

No idea where they have their lookup data from but it is incorrect.
