DRL Coding

Post by Ubatoid » Sun Feb 03, 2013 4:14 pm

First off, thanks to Kkodal78 for allowing me to purchase his redundant Depo lights inc 55w HIDs.
Next thing is is there a way to code the rings to come on as daylight running lights ?
I had a quick look with the scanner, and was able to try EU, US and Denmark as options, but these just put the dipped lights on aswell as the halos. I know it can be done with a bit of fancy wiring and a relay but I would rather do it the "proper way" if possible.

Any hoo, here is a piccy of them fitted - Sorry KKodal, didnt like the mesh wrap.....

No comments on the state of the wheels please - they are on my list of mods - well thats my excuse anyway...

I tried all the options of DRL's on the scanner, as I wanted the marker LEDs as well.
I had the dipped beam on with the markers ( same as you get on the normal headlight setting, also had the front indicator lights on as side markers, got sick of people pointing it out as though there was a fault, so reverted back to standard. Us setting uses low power high beam, eu uses dipped beam. I've got LED markers and 55w HIDS.

i've tried all combinations and permutations with the scanner - cannot switch on the halos with the scanner.

i suppose because on the E53 they wouldn't pass as DLRs.. where they're needed as DLRs.

don't know about thee mystic world of ncs though - worth checking the bmwcoders, bmwcoding forums..

In the control menu of the intravee you have options for min number of indicator flashes and using AE as DLR.

All BMW's with AE are already fitted & coded for AE as DRL.

You just need to turn the little rotary control on the RHS of the steering column one click to the right of centre.... >:D >:D >:D
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

what?? no way! by default that turns on the dipped headlights when the car is on. certainly doesn't run the AEs as DLRs by default.

you can of course change the DLR config from the dipped beam to the high beam or the side lights. but u can't change it to AEs (with the scanner).

i will  try out waht is said below about the intravee.. hopefully later today.

On my old E53 the AE's only were on the first right notch and dipped headkights on the second.  E70 & E71 made from 2010 now have front and rear DRL function controlled from the iDrive (it's a factory added option for UK Spec at that time).  The Mini also has the function but that turns the dipped HIDs on instead of the sidelights.

If you've not got the option on your IV, you need to download the latest firmware or accept the disclaimer if you e already got it.

richard & steamyrotter, i see what you mean now - that's no DLR that's manually switchin on AEs everytime u want em.  >:D engineers!!

u see - us non engineers like  them to come on automatically and not having to switch them on manually!  8)
