I would say yes. I had a Thule tow bar cycle carrier that I used on the Honda CR-V. It had a factory fitted detachable tow bar that looks a works the same as the X6's. come to think about it, it must be yes. When towing trailers, caravans etc. it's doesn't matter what the combination is between tow ball and hitch.

The reason I asked was if you look at
http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/product ... e=03/06/05
in the Detail section, Cycle Carrier Option - Non Suitable.
But I am thinking they are talking about witter cycle carrier's
Am I right?

For complete piece of mind, give either Witter or Thule a ring to see what they say.

I'm sure that will be a straight forward fitment like the Thule.

It is. Consideration is because Maxxraxx is single hook and as I have a couple of mountain bikes with cross posts and kids bikes I know designs like the Thule double hook make it very hard to load the bikes without the extension bars.

I always took it that the cycle rack bracket bolted on to the 2 x 16mm bolts that secured the standard towball on to a flange type towbar, not the detachable type.
Look on the PF Jones website they sell both tow bars and thule racks

I'm not sure either of those will work with detachable 'swan neck' tow bars.

Those shots were just design example.
The Thule pictured will fit swan neck.
The Maxxraxx pictured will not but the sell the same design for swan neck.
As you can tell been watching alot of YouTube and called a few dealers.

Mate, are you sure you wantthe high level Thule mounted kind?
Can you still open the tailgate with that and bikes on?
I went for the Mottez 4 bike platform carrier. Latches on and off and fits the detachable Westfalia swan neck tow ball like a dream. So Should be OK on yours. No lateral movement whatsoever on the motorway. Solid as a rock...

So I have considered those same type made by Mount Blanc and def looks more secure when travelling. My only issue with that type is storage when not in use.
Both the Thule and Maxxraxx have tilt options so you can access your hatch, Maxxraxx tilt is better as it stops in a certain position the Thule just leaves your bikes on the ground.

after a lot of consideration last year i went for the
Mont Blanc (not from this seller i just did a google..)
criteria was as follows:
- bikes have the top 'bar' (whatever u call it) at various angles. kids bikes have insufficient space to hang from. this is not a problem for this 'platform' type carrier.
- can be easily lowered with teh bikes loaded to open the boot
- bikes are nicely sitting on their tyres on the 'platform' well guarded not 'hung' from the 'bar' so not prone to any damage
- carrying 4 bikes is a risk on the motorway. imagine if one falls off on the motorway!! so best to play safe and go for a reputed brand. i'd have prefered Thule but they didn't have a 4-bike platform type at that time.
- comes with the lights and plate holder, so no need to buy that extra.
- apart from bikes being on a platform, the vertical support for bikes on this model is rather solid, unlike some of the others..
i've done a couple of trips with this no issues at all.
said that, after it came home i realised that its not actually made by mont blanc, its just rebranded!!! so much for peace of mind with a brand..
