Although mine is a 2005 (55) is imagine its the same method to set up.

It's easy. I done it with my 4 and never got round to doing the 5. Just done it this second.

Get in car.
Turn Bluetooth on on phone and stay on that screen
Key in ignition but don't turn it.
Press button in centre console (where phone would go) for 3 seconds
Turn key to position one continuing to hold button for further 3 seconds
Release button when the orange red and green signal indicator flashes on nav unit
Screen will say pairing - BMW****** (* being the last six of your chassis number) will appear on the phone
Press it and enter the pass key for the cars Bluetooth (assuming you have it)
Wait a minute
Job done

Have you cleared out all the old pairings first?  The TCU only allows connection to a limited number of devices before refusing anymore 'pairings'.

have you got the iphone 5? the bluetooth has changed generations since it was brought out on my 2003, 10 years on and it's old technology now.

I'm not sure how you clear the old pairings.
