Hi guys just wanted to say hello and its good to join the "X drivers" just got a X5 4.4i auto 113000 miles with lpg conversion, think the car is fantastic :D I also have an E39 528i touring.
Think I've got a problem with my gearbox on the X5 as it seems to be holding onto 4th sometimes and not changing up even in manual mode, I know its had a new gearbox and torque converter fitted just over a year ago!
Just a bit scared that I now may have to have another gearbox fitted, anyone else had the same problems?
Sorry to begin my time on he forum like this but know you guys are the first and best place to ask any questions and hopefully get some good news!

Welcome swipe,

Hope you find the forum useful! As for the gearbox - have you tried a soft reset?

Ignition position 2 - don't start the engine
Floor the accelerator pedal for 30-40 seconds
Release the accelerator pedal, step on the brake and start the engine
Move forward

It may not work but worth a punt for free! Then there is the possibility of a software upgrade - Jason at B W is you best bet there (location may be an issue of course).

HTHs...

Sanj thanks for the tip tried it and so far it seems to have worked, I've booked the x5 into my local indy for a oil service and asked them to change the gearbox oil as well!!

May be premature BUT.... woohoo!!!! :yeah:

I REALLY hope it continues to work - I'm sh!tt!ng myself for YOU!

When you're about to hand over the keys, ask them to look at the oil that comes out, does it look burn't, any contamination, etc? Also, ask for the filter and the gasket to be changed at the same time.

Fingers crossed that the gearbox works, will ask my indy to look at the oil for any signs of wear and to change the filter and gasket.
Will let you know what they find hopefully not much but good oil!!

Thanks for the welcome Chompers good to be on board, had a bit of a scare when all of sudden a warning light came on and the "trans fail" came up on the motorway.
Pulled over and tried the soft reset and so far seems ok but hopefully the oil change will help!
