Height indicator warninglight

The warnninglight for height suddenly lights up. The level of the car is right, and can`t feel any difference from when the light was of. Exept that the car is a bit stiff on the rear suspension. The car is without airsupension (no switch on the left side of the wheel), so if there is a leveleing system this must be automatic, and probably only on the rear suspension.
What does the lamp tells me, when the height is OK, and ride feels normal?

That thread linked above is useful.
Basically if all level then likely to be a sensor issue maybe or battery sometimes throws up errors.

Thanx`s for the tip - wery usefull treads!
I have since postet the question, found out that i have compresor in the unit above the battery. But I have never heard it running....?
If the compresor doesnt work, how does the car behave? My guess is that it will be low at rear, but its normal. When driving it feels like extrem sport suspensin at the rear (19" wheel`s), and as metioned no difference from the period when height indicator didnt light up?

I've not read up on X5 suspension but have in relation to my Merc. It is working fine but I am aware that when the spheres need replacing the suspension goes very stiff so it could also be those.
