Reoccuring fault, but my local dealer is doing my head in...

So get this come up on my car when I have been driving for about 20 minutes fast on a motorway/dual carriageway almost without fail.  Happens even quicker if it is raining for some reason.

If I turn the car off and then back on again then the message goes away and then comes on again after another 10-15 minutes of driving.

So been to the local dealers to get it fixed under warranty, but they can't find the cause.  They tell me they can see the messages, and can clear them, but not what causes it.  So I ask them have you taken it out on a test drive to recreate the issue, and the answer is no.  Last time, I got them to pick the car up from my place and the driver reported that the message appeared when he was driving it to the garage.  But then they turned it off and couldn't find the issue again.  So again they just clear the messages, clean the car and return it to me.  Message came on when he drove it back again!

It's a 2009, 3.5sd with 35,000 on the clock.  This has now been happening for 3 months!!

Well it's going in again tomorrow.  Has anyone else seen this before so I can give them pointers as to how to do their jobs?

Pathetic!!

Surely there is a workshop manual guide [available to them] which lists possible causes of explicit error messages, with options for repair??

Check here also: http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/https://xdr ... ic.php?t=8
and here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showth ... p?t=332855

Battery drain issues are flagged up everywhere I look on this issue also.

Ensure they provide you with a replacement vehicle and then tell them you'll have the X back once they've sorted it properly. 3 months of back and forth is ridiculous. They should use the system in place to contact BMW GB's technical centre and get I sorted.

Well car came back yesterday.  Spoke to the mechanic on the phone too.  They have adjusted some of the front angle sensors and believe the x-drive may be winding up.

Possible cause they thought could be because I have winter wheels on it (Pirelli Ice&Snow RFT's 19" on 223 wheels).  These came with the car when I bought it as a special deal 2 years ago from a dealer and I use 20"s in the summer.  Had to explain that the issue started before I changed the wheels over, and it never happened last year or when I originally picked up the car.  Mechanic also explained that they applied the security update and I mentioned the car was taken in at the beginnign of Spetember to have that done.  He then mentioned perhaps it wasn't done properly before!!!

Still got to monitor it as the adjustments to the sensors may solve it, although I still believe it is a water ingress or battery problem myself.  At least it's under warranty and they clean it for me every time.

There was allegedly an update to the security update.
