Glow Plugs

Post by northernlight » Mon Jan 07, 2013 6:44 pm

When in the garage today having another problem diagnosed, the tech came up with another unrelated fault code:

4262 - Glow plug Cylinder 4 & 6 activation. Also came up with a 4501 exhaust gas recirculation control deactivation code as well.

Anyone have any idea if these are serious? Hadn't particularly noticed the car driving badly, but then again this is my first diesel so i expect it to be slightly less smooth than petrol!

Car is going back under warranty for the other fault so i don't know whether this one is worth raising as well?

Cheers

ever since ive had my scanner (3 years now iirc) its shown i have glow plugs 1,2 and 3 out.
the car has and still starts instantly first turn of the key even on icy mornings. the only problem to report is a single puff of white smoke on cold start up only.
i know glow plugs are not very expensive in themselves, but with this in mind, and the worry of snapping one trying to change it, i think i will leave mine well alone or until the car struggles to start in the morning.

mine also shows up an intermittent egr valve fault, but again, car starts/runs perfectly so ive no inclination to worry about it.

the scanner shows i have loads of weird and wonderful fault codes but nothing actually to show for them..

I had a glow plug fault on mine when i bought it. It also had a egr fault also. I relpaced the glow plugs and disaster struck when 3 snapped so word of warning be aware this may happen and you maybe in trouble. However when fixing that problem i found a few small vacuum pipes under the inlet manifold split which i suspect caused the egr fault as one of the went directly to the valve. As far as the glow plugs go  there is also a control box that causes the same faults, if i recall approx £60 from gsf, i would try that first before tackling those dam plugs.lol
