4th gen Hualingan feedback

Post by Stevegsxr » Tue Jan 01, 2013 8:24 pm

Hi all and Happy New Year! I know this has been mentioned several times but are there many guys that have bought the 4th gen Hualingan? If so are you happy with it? Where from? So far I have been contemplating getting one from Icebox autos on eBay or carvision, as they both appear to be good in customer service, not that keen on other double din units as I don't think they suit the x5 dash as it doesn't blend in, I currently just have the single cd unit at front with CDC in boot, and would like to upgrade, is it true the radio reception is not great? And does the dash need modified in any way for unit to fit? I know older versions have been discussed before but not so many with the newer version, just don't want to spend 400-500 to get a tidy looking ornament in my dash.
Any help appreciated

Hi Steve and  :hi: , sorry to say I have no experience to help with your enquiry but hopefully someone will be along soon enough with information you're looking for.

In the meantime we would love to see pics of you car.  :camera:

Hi steve. I've been living with mine for about a year now. My criticisms of the unit would be there are a lot of niggling issues. Radio performance is poor, but so was the original it replaced so I am thinking that is more of an antenna problem. The radio screen is garish and difficult to read on the move, the touch screen is twitchy, you have to be quite accurate with your touches. There doesn't seem to be any common theme to any of the screens for the different functions, they seem to be a collection of different software interfaces from third parties brought together for Hualingan. The iPod interface looks about 6 years out of date , no album art or full names, volume control has way too big steps for fine control, the sd card player quite often forgets what track it is playing when you switch off and on again leading to a an irritating scroll through the tracks. But saying all that, the sat nav is excellent- I loaded my own copy of Primo 2, and the digital tv is also good. Would I buy one again? Probably not. Given the choice I would have looked at the more expensive Dynavin D99 but at time of purchase they where + £300 on the Hualingan.

Hi Don, I have no pics of my car as yet but as soon as I do I will upload them, ubatoid, thanks for the honest reply, I do think even the 4th gen unit would be a bit hit and miss and I have also read good reports on the satnav but I don't use satnav much. It was mainly for bluetooth and to have music on memory card but was good to have the DVD/tv option and rear camera (oh and it looked better than the "basic" unit I have at the moment. Just can't justify spending any more cash for a Dynavin and tbh don't know if it would be any better. May just have to stick with what I have.

Also what I forgot to say in the favour of the Hualingan is the fit and the OEM look of the unit, even the night illumination is spot on.
