Good start to 2013.

Post by Riggie » Tue Jan 01, 2013 2:06 pm

I was playing at a function last night ( singer/guitarist) and parked my car outside the venue. When I finished playing at 12.30, I was told by the management that my car had been hit by a van during some sort of domestic altercation outside. There is a scuff along my rear bumper which has broken the top cover.

I've had a look inside the wheel well and that appears ok. The driver of the other vehicle made off after assualting someone at the scene and kicking anither parked car, but was later arrested for drink driving. I'm told by the police that he does have insurance.

On the face of it, probably wcould be fixed without a new bumper, but if the insurance are paying, it will be going into a BMW bodyshop.

Just need to wait now for the insurance details. What a pain.

Sorry to hear of the sour start to your new year Riggie.  At least the guy is bang to rights and insured.  Hopefully the rest of your year will be better.

All the best.

Thanks Don, seems he is one of the travelling fraternity, white transit van brigade, so getting hold of him may be difficult. I'm not interested in speaking to him, as long as I've got his insurance details, a new bumper should be on its way.

As he's a traveller, it's a bonus that he's insured.  Other than that, how did the party go?  I can't sing for toffee or play note.  :'(

Party was ok, the first time I've played that venue. Some of the punters looked like extras from Jeremy Kyle!

This is still dragging on. The toerag is due to answer bail later this month. He will no doubt be charged with drink driving and failing to stop after an accident, amongst other things.

I spoke to the loss adjusters today and they said that he cancelled an arranged meeting last week, so they are no further forward. This despite the investigating officer telling them that he had evidence that placed said toerag with his vehicle a short time before the collision and then toerag being arrested driving the vehicle a short time later.

Toerag says at the time of the collision, the van was stolen!  You couldn't write it but the sting in the tail is that the insurers are now saying that as he hasn't cooperated with them, they will deny him cover! He is the registered keeper of the van and a named driver on his uncle's policy.

I remember reading something about this sort of thing, does anyone have any experience of this happening?

I will speak to a solicitor friend of mine tomorrow. What a load of hassle for a £300 repair, and that's at main dealer prices!

Thanks Don,

The bumper doesn't need to be replaced and in all honesty, I could get it repaired for £100, but letting this pikey toerag get away with it goes against the grain!

I'm not sure if the insurance company can just come up with some cock and bull story to get out of coughing up. I would gladly take them to the small claims court, but doing likewise with Mr 'traveller' is unlikely to be successful, as I expect he would just put two fingers up. Going through all the rigmarole with baliffs etc, just seems a pita, but you never know, my belligerence may come out!

Any views or experiences from anyone regarding the insurance company's stance would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear this hasn't been sorted yet mate.

When some delightful @sshole knocked the back of my X (whilst I was parked) cracking the paint and putting a small crease in the bumper, it cost me £150 as surprise surprise nobody saw anything or left any details.

At least you have a chance of getting it sorted via insurance and I wish you luck in claiming off said toe rag pikey shite.
