20k miles into a remap

Post by Takson » Mon Oct 25, 2010 2:25 am

I have now put 20k miles on my 54 plate x5 3.0d sport, since I had it remapped.

It is not one of Jason's systems, only because one of the people I worked with had a link with another company. I believe the process is similar to bluefin, but obviously the company and actual system is going to be different.

Process was:

I was sent a box
downloaded the map from the car
Sent map to company
Received file back which I uploaded to the box
Uploaded to the car.

Claimed facts and figures are as follows
+ 45 bhp
+ 90 nm

Real world

Mpg -
I see an average of 35.5 - 36mpg OBC. Most of this is motorway based, form a starting figure of 32.3.
Range has gone from an average of 600 miles from a tank to just short of 650.

On a really long run taking it very steady (65 - 70) I did achieve over 700 miles from a tank.

driving
It still puts a smile on my face every time I floor it. I live in the country, and can overtake comfortably on B roads....with a good puff of smoke out the back.

Tyres
Pressures are regular, and checked every couple of weeks. I have seen an increase in wear in the middles of the rears compared to the two previous sets.

Gearbox and drive train
Not long after I had it done I noticed a thump when I was kicking down hard. I had the usual suspects checked, RTABs, bearings etc, transfer box and gearbox. All came back ok. The feedback I had from the old x5 site was that they may have 'turned up' the torque too much. Given that nothing else was showing up as knackered, I have adapted my driving style a little. If I really want to get some oompf, I use the manual selector and change down before I floor it. In 20k, everything still seems ok.

Verdict - best upgrade I have done to a car for value and impact. I would definitely do it again.
