Don can they detect the map when it goes in?. My car is going in for warrenty work on the 7th and although the chap is cool with the mods I do (up to a point) would they be able to detect the map?

Sorry mate, I really don't know. It has been said that if the car requires software updates then any mapping is wiped.

Re: X5 3.0sd now re-map by Jason
Certainly there have been inferences on the web that a map increments a number logged somewhere in the on board systems, and if that number does not match the data held by BMW from the last time their systems 'saw' the car, then the next software update will overwrite the map and reset it back to what BMW think it should be. Jason is the one who would know for certain.
What isn't clear is whether the Dealers can control what is uploaded, or the BMW servers do everything with little interaction once the car is connected. Certainly when mine had the 'security upgrade' done a few weeks back, all sorts of other patches were also applied and the Dealer phoned me to say it would take 12 hours 'according to their computer'.

mine is going in for the security update on the 7th..when i plugged the car into my friends autologic is said I required 7 hours of updates so I assume I wont get my car back the same day. I'll still go for the map and then just play dumb when they ask me (which shouldnt be to hard) I'll just say sorry no english lol!
