Hello all

Just popping in to say hello.

I am hoping to purchase an 06(late 05) Black 4.8i, <70k and full service history with black leathers.

I have read this forums excellent guide to buying and x5. I have also armed myself with the bentley manual and have obd tool is on it's way.....now I just need to find bloody car...wrong time to look, I guess.

I have minimal car experience but I would like to do a lot of the work myself, although I will still be taking the car to a indy to keep up with the stamps and do the big jobs(air suspension, pana roof  :black_eye:)

I hope to be an active member of this forum.

I would like to post an number of idiot's (video) guides for servicing, general maintaince and replacing bushes, cv boots etc..
hopefully this will help myself and others to keep these cars on the road for as long as possible

p.s yes, I have seen that the n62 can be a bugger but it happens to come in the only x5 I want to own(i wouldn't say no to a x5M though ;) )

Hi and  :hi: Biggeek,

Good to have you on board and good luck with the search.  Always glad to see members looking to be active with in the forum.  You may find sarcasm and thick skin helpful due to the low level wit that is often dished out.  ::)

Hi and a welcome aboard.... :D

Any guides and how to sheets etc will likely go down very well.  Any input is always well received, even if the humour can be 'of a low standard', but we blame the Mods for that.... :P

Welcome aboard, help for other members is always a good thing.

I see you have met two former members above, unfortunately they had to retire  :))

Yes I can see you forcing me in to retirement due to lack of meaningful contributions but it would be a brave call to give Richard the old heave ho!...... Are you man enough pvr?  8)

Hello All,

It looks like I will have to compromise  :(

I have found a 04,92k 4.8is  that I have put a deposit down on but I am trying to get an independent inspection done but dealers(Lakeside cars) will only allow on-site inspections.

RAC cost £305 and I would rather give that to somebody who knows these car intimately but if I cant get it sorted through a BMW specialist i will have to resort to them or the AA.

The car is nice for it's age but I still have my doubts as it is the first car that I have seen. The price is just shy of 11k

I checked the error code 27b8 & 27f2, cleared them drove for 20 minutes mixed driving, codes remained clear. I did some circles in a car park no noises....I need to go back on Saturday and try some manual shifting and changing into reverse.

I was surprised how heavy the steering felt..I was driving an old V70 T5 so not exactly a little weight and it didn't feel as sure footed as I expected but the ground conditions weren't the best. The front tires looked a little low and they were flagged as an advisory on the last MOT.

The car was regularly serviced at a BMW specialist literally around the corner. I have spoken to the specialist and he listed quite a bit of work had been done over the last 3 years. new air compress(but they call it a pump)  springs and a oil cooler. I am a very suspicious guy and I think the dealer and the specialist are too close for comfort but this is probably my mind coming up with a conspiracy theory  :crazy1:

The paint work looked ok a few scratch and small chips in the bonnet but nothing that looked shocking. again I will take another longer look on Saturday.

I like the car but I would just like it to be checked out by  someone with a little more knowledge then myself...especially seeing that I nearly danced around like a little kid when the car first started Up :D

The ad has been taken down from autotrader and the dealer site already so I cant share the links but it has been advertised for a while so somebody may have seen it.

The car comes with a 3 month/3000 mile warranty which can be extended for the year. I was planning to take a warranty out with warranty direct as well(the BMW is too expensive) even though I think warranties are like insurance policies and they will do anything not to payout.

p.s I think I will have to keep my sat/ nav on to warn me of the speed as she moves effortless. I had to keep checking the speedo >:D

No brainer - for that £305 odd price and no doubt less to check a car out, call Jason. No one better (in the area).

As in B&W JAson?

If so I thought about him as I have taken my E30 325 conv to him in the past but I thought it would be too far. it's worth a shot I guess.
