Hello All!

I`ve read the buyers guide, thanks for the insightful information. I am looking at buying a 2004 X5 4.8is Le Mans edition:
http://www.jamespaul.co.uk/bmw-x5-4.8is ... on-2460225

I`ve emailed the dealer for more info but obviously have all the xmas shenennigans with family going on at the moment.

Does anyone know the car?

I`d appreciate your views.

WOW !!!!!
Tempted by the Range Rover Vogue, and the Porsche 911............
If you get the 4.8 IS you will pull up at the lights behind that RR and kick yourself !!!!!!!!!

The RR is a nice specimen isn`t it. Not a fan of 996 911s, a face only a mother could love.
Also not a fan of black leather and it`s strong money for a 2002!

I take it you know this guy from another forum?  But why would you kick yourself for taking a 4.8is over a RR Vogue?  I know which one I'd choose and it wouldn't the RR.

:hi: to the forum.  The car seems to be in excellent nick with low mileage.  I would push for a set of winter wheel to be thrown in if your area suffers from snow.  The X can be sledge like on twenties in the ice and snow.

Hello Don,

Thanks for the welcome! It does look lovely (the x5) doesn`t it. Really want to go and have a look with my wife but she`s been pretty much in bed for the last week with a major resurgence of ME. Not a great Christmas!

I think I might just have to go ahead and hope she likes it.

It will be for both of us really though. I sold an M6 convertible this year and have been driving a Passat CC which is great at doing what it`s designed for but about as much fun as root canal.

Sorry to hear about the wife, not nice anytime of the year but all the worse this time of year.

If the wife likes performance BMWs then she should love the X5.  Commanding driving position with plenty of poke when required.

Best wishes to the wife and keep us informed about how you get on with the X.

I tend to agree that there doesn't seem to be a Sat Nav and would say that this would be an oversight by original owner.  This is one of those features that most buyers would look for so if your happy not to have the Sat Nav make sure the price reflects this.

Hi I have been to this dealer in past when looking for an X5 at a diesel 3.0d also had a 4.6is,

Cars nicely turned out but 4.6is had wrong rear wheel size, but good spec and wanted to shift it so was willing to drop price as what person would want a large petrol engined car in this economic climate, oh yes me?

Just check car over press all buttons and check air suspension works and no warning on dash, if you press the reset on dials it should come up check ok if not will tell you whats wrong.

If unsure better to pay for an inspection and see if warranty and what it covers these cars do go wrong and cost a lot to fix.

Ps there is a nice pub just up the road to eat in

Are you suggesting we are all going there to have a look and have a meal afterwards in that pub?  :))

Still miss my 4.8is.  good luck in your search and be 100% sure of the cars history before you buy.

Before I bought my 4.8is I test drove Ranger Rovers ETc even the supercharged is not a match for a 4.8is, then when you get to the first corner the RR will have to brake a lot more than the X, the 4.8is will be out of sight at this stage.

I'm looking for a 4.8is myself soon, whats the best way to check the air suspension is OK, any pointers? Also the reset on the dials, is this a check for everthing or just the suspension.
Sorry if these are basic questions, just that I'm not too familiar with the way the X5 works  :-[

Welcome aboard and good luck with the search.

Some advice and guidance in Barneys newbie thread so have a look there.

Personally wasn't too fussed about the OE satnav, etc as it's poo. I've binned all mine off now in replacement of decent aftermarket kit.

Thanks Raj, I may be seeking your advice in the near future ref upgrades. I see you have yours chipped?

Hopefully going to look at car tomorrow, fingers crossed Mrs is up to it.

Very much looking forward to it. Just a quick question, how quickly do the side bolsters wear? Look pretty bad on the pics of the one I`m going to look at? I know they can be reno`d, I had that done on my champagne nappa Z4MC.
