New BMW Alloys for Winter...Part 2 with Pics..

Post by Darnicmax » Sun Oct 24, 2010 10:30 pm

Following on from my earlier posting about my purchase of Vredestein Winter Tyres and genuine BMW alloy wheels....

Well, I decided to make the most of the good weather today - and fit the winter tyres. After all, it is nearly November!

The job was quick and easy as you would expect - and made even more straightforward by the use of the jacking pad that I bought. This pad locates into the jacking points of the X5 and enables you to lift the car safely and securely using a trolley jack, with no risk of damage:

Here's a few pics of the wheels fitted. I think they look slightly better on the car than they did lined up in the garage...but to be honest they still don't quite work for me. Still think they look like a bit like a giant snowflake...which I guess is not a bad thing for a winter wheels ;) . That said, for the price I paid from BMW for these (and rembering I bought these for winter use only), I shouldn't complain. :D

Inital drive out on the Vredesteins was very impressive. Extremely quiet. I'll let you know how they perform in the snow.... :driving:

Thanks for sharing - they look much better than most winter offerings I have seen & as you say sourced for a good price - I just hope the effort in cleaning them doesnt get on your nerves, if left to the elements without washing they may look scruffy pretty soon.

I know the consensus seems to be for smaller winter rims, (for additional cut), however, I'd be tempted to simply buy a matching set of 19" sport rims on my car if running seperate winter rubber................Sure they would be wider than 17's or 18's but still likely to perform far better than my existing 19" Diamaris in snow.

......Not that I will be running a winter set this year.

Bought it directly from a company in the states called Reverse Logic.

Faultless customer service - arrived within a few days and exactly as they described.

Heres the web link:

Same here fella ...i have been considering a 17" winter set up for a while but having driven with no probs last year on my oem 19"s and normal tyres i may just replace my (slightly worn/kerbed)original 19"s with a fresh newer set(or slightly bigger set) for summer wear and get some winter tyres for the 19"s.
Cost of tyres isn't a major issue as they would only be for the winter months!!
Of course i am not saying that they would perform any better/worse than 17" but i also think they would be adequate enough for the small amount of snow etc that we generally have come the winter.
The daft thing is that i had a spare set of 19"s earlier this year and sold them on fleabay for jack s@>t  :slaphead:

I have just ordered my winter wheels and tyres . Bought a refurbished set of 4.4 Sport alloys ( pre facelift sport Y style , type 63 ) .

From e-bay @ £200 for all for, like new. Genuine BMW

Wanted 19, S as going on the 4.8 iS...............

Winter Tyres were difficult to locate. No one does a 20 inch tyre that fits the 10 ' rim.

Found plenty of choice with the 19 ' wheels...............255/50/19 on the front and 285/45/19 rears.

Ended up with Continentals......

Just over a bag of sand all done.

Very happy with that...................

Will post some pics if I can work it out when they all arrive.

Regards

Nat.
