Driver's Door Handle Query

Post by northernlight » Fri Dec 21, 2012 10:55 am

Hi guys,

90% of the time my drivers door handle opens the door just fine, however about once in every 20 uses, it sticks. It doesn't matter if the weather is particularly cold it seems. The door handle pulls out the first 5mm as per usual, but at the point where it 'bites' the latch mechanism, it stays solid. It will eventually open with a good hard tug, but i don't want to cause too much damage by doing this for too long.

The next time i come to open the door it's back to normal. Doesn't seem to correlate to whether the car has been in use or sat for a day or two. The lever still sits flush with the body, so not the same as some of the other issues i've read about.

I imagine that something internal might need a lube, but is there any way to check without having to take the whole door assembly apart?

Any advice/suggestions? Thanks!

Not really, mine was sticking in the cold so I sprayed WD40 in the latch to try and drive any water away.
You might just have to take the door card off and have a look/grease. Its not too hard to get in, much easier when the doors not stuck shut like mine was lol

I had this issue 6 months ago but I had the fill problem where the door wouldn't open. A local indy did it and all was fine however I now have had the sticky handle issue develop in the last 48 hours and like you I didn't want to pull too hard. Don't know if they are open tomorrow but I'm going to take a drive by and see how quickly they can look at it. i am expecting some degree of warranty on parts and/or labour for a job that was only done 6 months and 6000 miles ago bearing in mind the previous handle lasted 133,000 miles !
They may not be able to look at it until early Jan but I will let you know the outcome
