how do i check the gearbox oil

hi all , going to do another engine oil change before xmas ,just wondered how do i check the the gearbox oil on my manual diesel thanks kev
Nothing in the BMW TIS other than "remember to check the oil level"..... but not how.
The Xoupost forum thread simply says when it comes back out of the fill hole, it's full.
Sounds a lot simpler than the auto one!!
