Anyone use these?  Simple camera's or full GPS telemetry versions

What make and pros /cons welcome.

Thinking about one, as inlaws car written off 2 weeks ago, and wife had near miss last week -
both cases other drivers at fault (though its not uncommon for at blame drivers to change thier storys post accident >:().

Be nice to have back up proof if ever in an accident.

Something that's popped in to my mind from time to time, especically with he increase in crashes where the driver in front deliberatly causes the crash to then claim big injury damages.

Not cheap though are they!! :o

I started looking at the Roadhawk options after that guy hit me  two years ago.  I wondered if there was any other way of doing it with one of the 'Action Cams' that seem to be around these days - certainly a higher quality picture being full HD, but I don't know whether they can 'loop' the memory as the crash cams do?

Or use the iPhone if you have one with the software you can buy specifically for this?

Don't know if it is any good though.

The wife has a Blackvue DR380G HD in her car  http://www.blackvuehd.co.uk/BlackVue_DR380G_HD.php.

I have a Akenori HD pro in the X6http://www.exeros-technologies.com/car-cameras/akenori-car-camera.

Both are excellent cameras, mine has the advantage of a GPS speedo built in but the Blackvue is hard to spot due to its design. I also have a DOD GSE550 camera being used as a CCTV and that one has already paid for itself by catching the council smashing my window and a neighbours car being reversed into.

Now that interests me - can you share more details?

Interested in the second one as it has the camera detection system in there as well. Is it rechargeable unit or a cable - everywhere job? Do you leave it in the car or do you take it out every time and if so - where did you put it ...

Finglonga,

Can you post a picture of yours showing the fitted position.  Has yours been hard wired or do you use the 12v plug.

I also like the look of this one, but would like to have it hard wired.

Depends on the charge time I suppose. If it can be charged and then disconnected for a decent time, I would not see the need to hard wire as such. If it is not practical, I would hard wire it as well.

Does it have a rechargeable battery? Can't see anything in either the write up or specification?

Well, I read this bit in the tech overview:

"Mini USB Car Charger"

If it was a supply, it would or should say "Power Supply". A charger implies that there is an internal battery.

Why does the Akenori read in kmh but show the speed limit in mph?

So why mention a "charger" in the description if it is not rechargeable?

A TomTom is 12v as well, but is rechargeable ...
