how do i get this sorted?

do i have to replace the whole bumper? guess so as its a blo0dy hole instead of a pdc :( or can it be repaired?

if i have to get a new one where do i get one from?

if i get a new one i'd have to get it painted. from where do i get the exact colour code, its a 'black'?

i'm in west london, anybody able to recommend a good bodyshop?

Ooppss , that's not so good .

I doubt that can be repaired , it's not like the old fibreglass trick works on these .

I'd recommend looking for one in a reputable BMW dismantlers 2/hand , but I don't know
any in the London area . Have a look on the web or if u subscribe to any BMW mags in there .

The paint code you will find on the suspension turret in the engine bay .  Can't remember if it's
left side or right , but you can see it easily enough .

Hope that's a help to start with , and good luck

Groan  :(

Why would a new one need to be painted though? The painted part is not damaged, it is?

I thought the bumper was all one piece even though only part painted?  Breakers, ebay your friend here.  Hate to think what dealer would charge.

it is one piece. issue is if i don't find the right colour in an unscratched condition i would have to paint it black..

i guess i'll check a few with the right colour and condition and go pick up; then i can fit it myself. no need to paint and mess around with it.. yes MK is not too far away Imy..

thanks guys.. must go home and check the colour code.

Very unlucky. As you are doing, go with a sceondhand one in right colour. There are always plenty to be had.

Was not sure if the colour coded parts were detachable or not, seems not to be the case then listening to you guys.

Actually I think there is a way of seperating them tbh, but think it's far easier to actualy just pick up a secondhand one.

Remember if you need PDC, you need the right bumper....

I've never seen one without, but it may have been an 'option only' on overseas cars.

Worth getting a price though, some times they can be on par with breakers prices. You would need a mortgage to have it fitted by the dealer though. ;)

i will call the dealer tomorrow and ask, no harm trying - good suggestion thanks

couln't get the colour code from teh car today, too dark.. i'll be home tomorrow am so i can do this tomorrow.

ebay has only this one that i like. price is good, except there is a damage. can't tell the quality of the paint from the photo. can't ensure the colour either. i guess i'd call them tomorrow.

EDIT - i 've logged a request in parts gateway as well. lets see who responds with what..

best is mrs jaynana didn't tell me about this! she parked the car in a way that the front was hidden in teh driveway (anyways its dark by the time i come home after work); waited till the next day, went to office, sent me a text 'i've done something really terrible, you're gonna get really mad!'  :crazy1:

Bumper will split, it's plastic welded and has screws at the end.

If you're looking to fix your own then you need the sensor and the holder.

I'd not bother and get a bumper that you can have sprayed up if the donor bumper is cheap.

I can help you get it off/on etc.

Potentially, new bumper, spray up painted bits and additional PDC. Rest will swap out.

Or I can ask how much to repair what you have?

J I've started asking my body repair guy already. You need the sensor, source one yourself now - eBay and no more than £30. Can't remember but someone posted links to a good seller a week back.

Next the surround is plastic welded. Then the PDC clips into that.

My guy says its a fairly easy repair - yet to give me a price. But call BMW part in Cotswold or your own source to get a discounted price on that surround. If the paint is unmarked, think cost of sensor, surround and this guys labour. I can help you get the bumper off if you can do without the car for a few days.....

Keep you informed.

thanks sanj

i had concerns about the repair option cos that part is not painted, so how can the damage be hidden.. lets see what your guy says.

so i need a pdc and a 'surround'? ok will search around.

pdc is required anyways so i'll get one ordered from ebay. i replaced one one before myself so i know to get this plus i can remove/fit bumper as well.

lets see what the cost is..

if that doesnt work out for any reason,  replace option - options i have are either find an exact replacement with a good quality paint or get a cheap bumper and get it painted.

sanj, how much would it cost to get it painted? thing is i don't even know a body shop.. never done this.. you're obviosly not too far so i presume i can come to any place you know.. although.. hang on.. the paint job u had at the meet worries me..  :))

thx

j
