I've never come across this before with an X. Is there a lot of water? Could it have come from on over zellest clean from previous owner, dealer?
I would dry it up and keep an eye on it to see if more water appears.

Possibly the seal around the tail light, rear quarter window seal or there is a vent in the side of the cubby also. Dry it all out and gently hose down around tail light, etc to see if you can spot where it is coming from.

No problem. Hope you get it sorted soon with all the rain we are currently experiencing.

I'd go with Raj on this too. Check the tailgate seal, the vent that in the bumper and the seal around the light too.
If you want to be super careful - get the electronics out first. You may have any of the following down there; CD changer, SatNav unit, bluetooth module, HK amp.
Also, get into the battery area and make sure there's no water there. The RCM, TV module, PDC module are all there. Very pricey if they get wet.

I had a damp area in the bottom right corner of the boot. Dried it out - suspect the rubber bung in the bottom is duff, as it is very supple compared to the one on the other side. Everywhere above it was bone dry.

It's an old thread so was probably sorted. Just to add that when I had this problem it was eventually found to be caused by a manufacturing defect in the Panoramic roof frame. Thankfully it was covered by warranty as apparently it would have been around £3K+ otherwise (IIRC).
