I need two new wishbones for the X5. BMW are quoting 380 for the parts but it seems Euro car parts are less than 200. The car is 2004 with 80000 miles, which should I go for?

Hi Finnie
Is it just the bushes in the wishbones that have gone as I am currently havin mine done and just put new bushes in the wishbones. Was told that alot of people don't like doing the bushes as it's easier to replace whole thing but alot more expensive. Bushes only cost about £15 each instead of about £80 for whole thing.

Re: Euro car parts
Bushes alone cheaper than entire wishbone albeit the labour charged can increase as it can take longer to remove & fit the bush so worth checking on the total price. I also read that BMW have a ecommended total number of times for bush replacment only ( 2 or 3 cant recall). I assume this is to allow for stress placed on the wishbone or longevity of wishbone durability though I am only speculating.
If getting new bushes fitted it is worthwhile ensuring whoever does the work has the correct kit, (not a clue but think there are dedicated bush removal tools), as damage can be caused from bodged brute force and vice clamp efforts.

Re: Euro car parts
It may not be the bushes. My ball joint was shot on the wishbone not the bush. I am pretty sure it was caused by the failure of the front oil filled bush, which are known to fail on cars with less than 30K.
That is the reason I have replaced them with Powerflex bushes, so I know I will never have the issue again.

Re: Euro car parts
Given the miles I think changing the entire wishbone is the way to go, but my question is weather I should use ECP or spend nearly double the money on the BMW item?
The issue is that I have a wobble in my braking at medium pedal pressures, see the thread about steering wobble under braking. That thread describes exactly my problem.

Re: Euro car parts
If its any help mate I replaced mine from ECP and no issues whatsoever, everything fitted perfectly and after an alignment check its all been good.
Re: Euro car parts
Which ones did you get, I see there are two types on there.
Re: Euro car parts
Decidedto have a look on C3 BMW and found them at 78 each or so. Thought that was a decent price, not too cheap but not BMW rip off prices. We'll see how they go!
