XDRIVE badges

Post by CR55 » Tue Nov 20, 2012 3:22 pm

Woke up this morning to find some low life scum had stole the X DRIVE 3.0d badges from my front doors,

Would be interested to hear from anyone whom may have some for sale or whom could point me in the direction of a supplier without going to the stealers whom want circa £45 each !

Have tried ebay but with no joy, have also emailed a few breakers,  but as yet no joy either.

Cheers,

XDRIVE badges

That is a PITA!

You may want to consider leaving it debadged- many including myself have either removed them or de-selected at order.  IMO the side profile looks quite busy with the badges.

If you did want them try ebay- i have seen the odd one pop up there- or go through Cotswold BMW (they give forum members a discount- let them know when you ring them)

Did these thieving scumbag tossers course any damage?  I'm taking mine off but intend to use heat to slowly release the glue.

Others I'm sure can advise better, but isn't the trick to poor boiling water over the badges and use dental floss to separate them? I haven't done it myself - got the dealer to do mine before I picked it up - mainly in case some naive green warrior understood it to be a 4 ltr car and showed his 'respects' in the usual destructive manner.

I've not heard of this method before.  Normal use a hair dryer (borrowed from pvr) to slowly heat up and release glue.  Although a little slow (for the glue to release) it works great with no damage to painted surfaces.

Yes, the hairdryer I carry in my boot works great for that. Does make your fingers hurt like mad due to the heat of the plastic :)

I took mine off, if you want them, away for a week so won't be able to post them for a bit.

Dental floss is the way to remove them.

Drove behind a nice X6 on my way back from The Netherlands, lovely square pipes on it. Think they are standard in Europe as every single one I saw had them.

Looks so much more "manly" ... but if you have a pink one, guess you are not looking for that >:D

Ok never heard of this method.  Is it as simple as using a back and forth motion between the badge and car?

You just cut the glue then. You will be left with all the gunk on the car, so the heat treatment is better.

I thought you needed both - was how my dealer told me he de-badged mine for me?

Right makes sense now. Heat and floss.

Can't see how you could get second hand ones to stick properly again.
