Bluetooth problems - Fried module or wiring ?
Bluetooth problems - Fried module or wiring ?
Anyone have experience of this ?
The phone(s) will no longer connect to the car. Car will go into pairing mode but can`t find the car on any phone, I can still select the Telephone function from the OBD menu but all I get is "activate phone" as obviously nothing is paired.
With the scanner connected I can see "Bluetooth interface error" - have tried a software reset from there but nothing changes - the bluetooth device name and passcode are blank (still has the VIN and SW, HW codes stored though.
I`ve opened the armrest and there are 2 broken wires in there White/Red and White/Green - I can see the pins where they`ve come from in the plug (14 and 4) but on the female side of the connectors thoose pins are empty anyway ??
Anyone have any suggestions or a wiring diagram for the wiring in the harness ?

Save yourself all the grief of what I personally think is the most useless Bluetooth system known to man and get a Parrot fitted, I did and put the head unit in the ash tray so it can't be seen.

Re: Bluetooth problems - Fried module or wiring ?
Got to be honest Ian, I retrofitted the OEM Bluetooth to my old M3 and 320d years back as I think it's great. The only think that let's the X5 down is not having VR as its an Assist module fitted. I believe Jochen has a coding solution to this now though.
I had the same parrot fitted in my last daily beater (Astra twintop) and it was OK but not great.
Nobody has a pin out for the X4545 plug that connects the eject box ? Have found loads on the net but none match the coloured wires in mine.
It's under BMW warranty so might have to give up and book it in.

I've tried time and time again to get my phone paired, I also found broken wires that I repaired but still nothing, it's the only thing I actually don't like about the car.

Re: Bluetooth problems - Fried module or wiring ?
Yeah I think the wiring is a Red herring, only 5 wires are needed for the eject box and these aren't the 2 broken ones in my case. So it has to be the module.
I spoke to a friend over the weekend who had exactly the same symptoms and BMW first repaired the wiring then had to replace the module.

bMw replaced my module under warranty as well - seems there are relatively frequent failures as I have heard of quite a few. its absolutely fine now, touch wood.........
