Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy an X5 and found a nice 4.4i Sport, but if I go for a V8 over a 3.0D I had been planning on fitting an LPG kit at some point.

This particular vehicle has self-levelling rear suspenion, which means there is a compressor/tank under the spare wheel in the boot, which is where an LPG tank would usually fit.

So, can they fit LPG tanks anywhere else, or can the self-levelling suspension tank be moved or something?

Also, is self-levelling suspenion a good option to have or something that is likely to go wrong?

As for the self leveling suspension compressor AKA the 'german helmet' that can be re fitted in the cubby hole to the right of the boot. that is if nothing else is in there of course.

No probs the only reason i know is that i met up with a forum member from here today to help him out with his sat nav probs and he has lpg and said that that was where his compressor was now located.It won't be long and the lpg gang will be along to give you some advice if you need it there are a couple on here that i know off including pulsarjack and lezmtaylor

if you opt for a good LPG setup from BRC or Prins they will do it all for you. I have a BRC setup and the compessor is in the original location with the LPG

Mine is a BRC and self levelling pump was moved slightly. Still in boot but you can hear it when you first start up for about 5 - 10 secs. My installers wrapped it in as much sound proofing as possible.

Yep, my recent Prins conversion meant it was relocated to the cubby as mentioned above.
You hear it faintly wirr for about 5 10 seconds first thing in the morning when you start up, but assuming your air system is working OK it should be no longer than that.
Mine was all moved as part of the conversion and done very neatly and tidily, they even moved the DVD changer that was already in there slightly higher to allow it to fit.

I've been looking to LPG the 4.8. A place was recommended to me and they appear to be very good at what they do, but the kits they use are from Italy and theyare still checking if they can do the 4.8

Also, I have air suspension front and rear (hence a larger compressor), so again not 100% sure where they can relocate it too.

For those that have LPG'd, where was the fuel filler cap located? I really don't want it in the bodywork and the place I was looking at were going to locate it behind the tow flap.

I got mine filler in exactly that place. Didn't want it in the bodywork in case I ever decided to remove it. It's neatly behind the tow hook cover.

Really really impressed by my Prins system. Only been running it a month so far, but the install is excellent and your cant tell the difference to petrol at all.

cheers for the response. Just searched and found Prins is located here in Wolverhampton (only a couple of miles away). Did you bring yours down here to get it done? How long did it take for the conversion?

Mine was done by Autotech. They are the only Gold standard Prins installer in the north and I am very pleased with the job they did. Kevin there knows his stuff and you are not paying for someone elses R&D.
I am sure Prins in Wolverhampton would do just as good a job, but the feedback about Autotech was all really positive.
It took about 4 days in total and I honestly think any less time and it would be a bit of a rush job.

Total install, which included a brand new BMW Battery was about £2250 inc Vat

Much appreciated. Will probably give him a call tomorrow. Just fitted a brand new BM battery myself so should be a little cheaper.
