Thought it best to make a topic on it so others in my position needn't 'waste' per say Jason's time with PMs ETC....
I'm reading about the X's remaps by bwchiptune.co.uk and read that 'Jason' receives your standard map via email, alters it and emails back to be uploaded to the car.....this is what I don't get, I've came from Impreza remaps and know the key to a remap (atleast on a Impreza but would logically think the same for everycar) is the live-road test/mapping session as each and every car is individual? how does this work? and isit possible for a live map? as I'd prefer this - I understand Dyno sessions can be used aswell, but again I prefer live maps and what about warranties ETC?
Regards
Aaron

Is yours an Auto Aaron?
A compnay called bluefin do exactly the same, infact, its on a dongle that is sent to you in the post with a lead to connect it to your laptop for self downlaod,
My mates MK1 Focus RS was unreal after his download.
Alot of software is self managing nowdays as newer cars run wideband sensors and can teach themselves

I will be an auto yeah fella, I put bluefin on a mondeo tdci at ford fair one year and the smoke that came off it on idle, normal cruising and full boost was just plain stupid! So after an hour of It being installed I put the map back on the lead and took it back for a refund.
Now I'm not daft - I expect there to be more smoke/soot but that was just silly - ended up taking it to a company called PD TUNING which is local to me an they put a map on which was perfect - only smoked at full chat.
I maybe being harsh on bluefin but first impressions work most of the time with me lol

Sorry, I never answered your main question,
These downloadable maps are generic, and the price reflects this, some will work very well and some cars just wont like it,
A live map is the best way to do it properly with the mapper keeping a check on fuel mix, exhaust temp and other parameters, You'll have trouble finding a rolling road that will be happy to put an auto on the rollers, so most will be done on the road, Now, the guys doing live mapping on the road are getting far and few between due to it being illegal, ( I'd like to see a mapper live map a car on the road without breaking some kind of law)
So You will pay a premium, Evolve are very good and know there stuff with diesels, but once again thats going to be a generic map.
You get what you pay for

I used to pay
www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/index2.html(regarded as one of, if not, THE top mapper in the UK for Imprezas £350 for a live mapping session with two switchable maps on it.
If this isn't possible with BMWs then I fully understand, it's just I can't find anything giving yes or no answers - they all seem to be 'chips' which I will never use or generic (although unique at the same time) remaps, I've never looked into tuning my previous BMs before

Hi Jason, Like I say - I'm yet to buy the car but it will be in a Automatic Diesel guise.
There's no rush, take your time to reply - just thought it might be better to have a specific thread on it to help save time in the future too for when somebody searches your name
Kind Regards
Aaron

Hi Aaron,
I have one of Jasons maps on my X & it's been superb. It does smoke on hard acceleration but it did this before & I don't think it's any worse. I'm in the North East ( near Redcar ) & I'm sure it was PD tuning who I took the car to, they down-loaded my mapping, emailed it to Jason & he sent the moddified map up to be down-loaded to my car. Took about 2 hours. The difference was very noticable, not only is the X quicker but it also drives a lot nicer with none of the hesitance that it had before. MPG went up as well, it now does 2 or 3 mpg better round town & up to 4 or 5 mpg on a run.
Only problem I've had with excessive smoke was in France last year but I put it down to their crap diesel because as soon as I filled up back in the UK the smoke all but disappeared.
Good luck with your search for an X5, fantastic car
Phil.

We make the Remaps for PDtuning
These fords are well know to smoke if you tune them wrong
The problem is most tuners don't know how to tune the maps and this is when they smoke
I still get the fords turn up smoking the road out after someone has tuned them near me and you can see why by the amount of fuel adjustment added to in the maps
