London X5 Owners and Wing Mirrors

Morning all,

I am hopefully just about to pick up an X5 tomorrow after a looking at several candidates.

Last night in my internet trawling of all things X5, I heard about the London issue of the wing mirrors being nicked.

How many of you guys on here are from the smoke or know owners from here? And is it a known epidemic...or just a few isolated cases?

I'm just a bit spoked, as I was one of the 'lucky' many to have the front bumper nicked off my old E46 330ci from on the street outside my pad in a decent area of north London. I was hoping not to have to deal with that kind of situation again!!

Saw that most of the incidents were last year. Looks like my car will have the full folding/heated mirrors, which i presume are most 'in demand'. Hope i'm just being a bit paranoid!

That may be true. X's aren't exactly small, and for those who try to squeeze into tight spaces may loose them, and then nick ours! Problem is, I think any "quality" car you buy will be either looked at for parts or the entire car from the less than desirable in society! Just gotta make sure you're insured, tracker if youc an, and try not to park in East London!  :P

I had my e53 for nearly 3 years with no problems at all and the e70 has survived so far too

Thanks guys, hopefully i'm just being overly cautious!

My 330i was targetted in Belsize Park, hardly a dodgy neighbourhood, but i suppose maybe richer pickings for the tea leaves.

All the ones on eBay without the triangular piece that fits to the door and a wiring loom that's been cut make high contenders for being stolen! There is a real quick way to get them off, unfortunately and it's that Utica access you need to make 'harder' to access.

Im SE18 and have no problems with the X5 or the M3. The same cant be said im afraid for my little Nova 1.3SR I had when I was 17, a good 16 years ago! That got caned regularly, and Ive only moved half a mile up the road since then! To be fair tho, with a bangin system in the boot and a cherry bomb exhaust I was hardly goin down the stealth route. Mum used to put me dinner on when she heard the 'bomb coming up the hill!  :))
