Any idea how quickly BMW tend to release new cradles to fit new phones?

Why do you want it? I drop mine in the centre console with the USB charging cable attached to it. Seems easy enough ...

Not sure
)
I've not held a phone that heavy for a long time
I understand it even makes old fashioned telephony calls (providing the battery doesn't die mid dialling)

Indeed, and so is the owner.
Considering he can't give a short answer to any question, I am surprised he does not use a massive backup battery.
Normal people would say when you call your wife - "see you in 5 minutes", AW8 would say " just need to make a right turn in 50 yards, follow the road for approximately 39 yards passed the old fish shop where we used to get that cod with the extra crusty layer, then another left after that petrol station where you normally get the paper in the morning" etc etc >:D

He's right you know - War & Peace is just a comfortable nights read for AW8

Hi all, on the same topic. Is there a cable that can be connected in the centre console, and then to a mobile device like the Samsung S3?
Thanks

For an E70 - yes, but not for an E53 which is what you have though?

My understanding is that the only benefit of the cradle is that's the only way to access the car's arial? My dealership recommended I don't bother as most phones' reception is good anyway plus my phone (4s) is in a cover so would have to remove it each time ...

Ages from what I remember!
I don't bother any more because I don't think it does the battery much good!

I only ever use mine if the battery is really low as almost without fail I forget to take it out when I get out. Earlier this year I had to make a dash back to Heathrows T4 car park at the last minute which didn't go down well with the rest of the family!

I can imagine!
Probably best under those circumstances to make excuses and suggest you're going to the loo (for 30 minutes!)
