Tried the other key in case the immobiliser is not making a connection with the key?

Or airlock in the fuel system.  14 miles range is probably cutting it a little fine.. :(

X5 not starting!!

When is 14MPG not 14MPG? When it's in a twin turbo X5!!

Spot on Richard, lack of diesel meant it refused to start. Won't trust my OBC again! 14MPG should be ample to start a car surely?

Thanks for your help as always.

My petrol ran out with 26 Miles on the Range left. It ran out in the tunnel at Heathrow airport of all places!
Police were there within seconds threatening to call "their" recovery truck for £150. I said would you mind running me to the petrol station which is the other side of tunnel since you won't allow me to walk there and therefore allowing the car to be moved quicker but obviously their brother/friend wouldn't get his backhander at the recovery company that way so they declined and called it anyway.
No way was I paying £150 so I managed to bribe the Airport security with some drink money and the guy was good as gold. I managed to get back fill it up and drive off within 10mins before their mate turned up with the recovery truck  :))

I learnt that day never to trust the OBC again! ::)

Yes, wasn't there some article about this recovery truck backhander stuff recently?

Really surprised at that. I've had X5's and 5 Series BMs that I've taken right down to zero in the tank and still had sufficient fuel to make it to a garage.

14mpg and 26mpg seems pretty poor estimates when actual figure is basically zero!

waw! i used to let it run really low too, must stop doing that!!

once i left the car with less than a quarter in the tank, mrs happened to be home that day and ran it right down to about 14miles on the obc range reading! scary by the time i got to the fuel station, should have taken a photograph..

Tbh I never ever let it get down to those sort of OBC figures. Think it's a throwback to the old days of lots of gunk in the bottom of petrol tanks that would just clog up the filter or worse.
