X6 new owner questions

Hi all

Whilst I've had lots of BMWs this is my first X6 that I've now had for just over a week. I have a couple of questions about this 2008 xDrive 35d...

- what is the inner headlight for? It doesn't ever seem to come on. Full beam appears to be via the outer xenon lamp. It had adaptive lights, but the cornering light on they X6 appears to be the fog lamp - on my E90 it was this inner headlamp.

- when you pass the lock button on the remote when the Car is locked the handle lights come on along with the interior lights, but not the front or rear sidelights/drls as happened with the E90 - is that right?

- I'm still trying to work out whether the media pack's nav voice is supposed to be American!

- what is the lamp inside the boot lid for, that looks like a brake light? There is a bulb in it, but it never lights that I can tell. I know it has dynamic brake lights but the manual says that causes the 2 brake lights to flash rather than spread out further into the boot lid area

Cheers

Just pressed my lock button and same happened (X6 40d).  Just a power saving reminder that it is locked rather than a full on unlock drl flashing maybe?

Try looking in a shop window when reversing.  The upper 3rd brake light should work.

Cheers. The lock button is supposed to help you find your car in a car park according to the manual  - maybe if its very dark it might work!

It's not the high level brake light I meant, it's at the same level as the normal brake bulbs but in the tailgate.

Inner headlight is indeed the H8 that is used to light up the Angel Eyes.

The press of the lock button it to help find the car, not sure why as simply unlocking it helps more if the hazard lights are set to flash.

The inner lights will illuminate under heavy braking.

Are the inner lights not rear fogs?

No, the rear fogs are in the bumper.

Maybe it is the brake force display then - the manual only says they flash, not that they spread further with heavy braking. The manual also only says there are two brake bulbs each side, so I guess there are actually three.

Maybe they changed it, I looked in my manual (2011 X6) and it says they illuminate under heavy braking and nothing about flashing.

On my 2009 e92 335i it had the extended brake lights on the boot cluster and also the hazard lights flashed under heavy braking I found out on an emergency brake test (that nearly tore my eyballs out  :'( ).
